Great advice, Sabrina3144, and welcome to the Message Boards.

JSYK; the 15 minute wait also works when you are quitting smoking. B-)

Hi, Im in the process of loosing weight too. a couple of months ago i heard somewhere that cravings last only 15 minutes. they recommended to wait the 15 minutes and it would go away. so i've tried that advice and go figure IT WORKS!! while you wait try doing something check your email, switch channels, but try doing things that would keep your mind of food. and you'll see it works. After on your mealtime include the cheese you craved but it has to be fat free, or eat cheese that are recommended by nutritians, cottage cheese, ricotta, etc. you'll see its not that hard and will help you keep loosing pounds and keeping them off... Good Luck

Welcome to the Message Boards, lisajaneanderson! And congratulations on your weight loss as well!

I just realized I didn’t really answer fhack’s question. :8} I think she should certainly at least try the low fat or no fat cheeses. I don’t know if she will like them or not and the only way she will know is to try them.

It has been 5 years since I shed those awful 50 lbs. The thing about those old habits are they never die...the key is to rethink food. So you like cheese...try the fat free kind...I find most of the items that are fat free are not bad and in recipes you hardly ever taste a difference. My family had no idea that I switched to fat free products until my weight really started to show. Another key is if you find that fat free cheese or even the part-skim is not to your taste...remember everything in moderation. Dieting is a fad, maintaining a healthy weight is a life style change. What I found is when those old habits creep back in, it is the idea of the full fat products that is alluring..that you are being bad and the taste is (as in the cheeses) just too rich for me now and bother my stomach! I now prefer the healthy choices, and surprisingly too so do my children!

Welcome to the Message Boards, fhack.

These are my thoughts on such things; if you crave it you will not do yourself any favors by waiting until you break down and go nuts with whatever it is you are craving. If you want cheese, have cheese BUT do not have so much it will mess up your new healthier habits. Also, make sure you take the opportunity to savor what you are craving. If you just eat it fast you won't get the same satisfaction as if you take the time to savor it. You can easily make up in another area a snack of cheese as long as you only take a serving (which is about the size of two dice - um, die?) for your portion.

Congratulations on how well you have done so far! Keep it up!

Low fat cheeses

I have lost 30 lbs since June 2008. I am at that point where I am starting to crave my old habits.

I would like to know if there is a big difference in these low fat cheeses. Can I save a lot or is it a waste of time and it would just start up my old habits again.
