No way!! I have a gas oven...the idea of putting cardboard anywhere near flames scares the bejeebers out of me!!

We DO save the cardboard to use as a 'cutting board' when serving the pizza. I bake the pizza on my fancy schmancy perforated pizza pan, then slide it onto the cheap & disgusting cardboard packaging, slice into pieces, then set it in the middle of the table for the wolves...er...kids.. to eat.

I have put 'take & bake' pizza in the oven on it's paper bottom. I guess I assuming it was a different quality, as it was specifically MADE to be baked??

Huh, never read the directions that closely I guess:8} . I only have 1 Totino's pizza in the freezer right now and obviously can't cook that in it's box. Even thought I did toss one in the oven w/o taking the plastic wrap off by mistake :_| . We had grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch instead that day.

St. B, I've read about heating dinner rolls in a paper bag in the oven but nothing about baking chicken. Start a new thread and fill us in!

Eemma is indeed correct- pizzas may be cooked (or reheated) on the cardboard package that they come in. HOWEVER, as Eemma forewarned- the crust will not be that nice crispy thing that most of us expect. The only caveat is that the cardboard can not touch the sides or heating element of the oven. FYI- the same rule goes for baking chicken in a paper bag in the oven... but that's a whole other topic. :)

I have bought pizzas with instructions to leave the pizza on the cardboard if you don't want a crispy crust. (Don't even remember what brand it was.) As long as the rack was in the middle of the oven (as the instructions said) and it didn't cause a problem.

WHAT! Baking the pizza ON the cardboard...I'm not sure about that. That would be way too easy, not having to pry the pizza crust from the oven racks ;). I have had pizza and has tasted like cardboard before though, not mentioning which one ;\.

Eemma, wait...... are you telling me that I should be cooking my store bought pizzas on the cardboard they come on!!! Oh ME!! Get out!! Never thought of such a thing... Are you telling me that I have been glopping up my fancy, "aerated", NON-living up to it's hype pizza pan for nothing!???

And, not for nothing but... I get in trouble always because I don't let corrugated cardboard boxes leave my home until they are chopped up and hacked up and turned into 8" or 9" or 10" cheesecake rounds to be covered in foil for future use. Stores carry them??? Such an education I've just received...

Baked cardboard isnt a problem at the temperatures you will be using. [Haven't you made store pizzas on the cardboard they came on?]

I wonder if the cardboard cake rounds you can buy to go under cakes are the right size... ?:| I'll have to look the next time I am in one of the stores that carry them.

Michele,
I LOVE this idea! I am always being asked to make a cheesecake & learned the hard way 1st- that I used to end up w/ way more pan rings than bottoms because I wouldn't tranfer the cake to something else. 2nd- once I realized that I had to keep the pan bottom at home, I learned that getting that stupid cake off of it and onto a foil wrapped cardboard circle was not always such a simple thing. But your idea is BRILLIANT! One of those "Now why didn't I think of that!" I'll be making a bunch for Xmas so you can be sure I'll be trying this out. Thanks.

I have an idea to use some "Release Foil" or parchment paper under a spring form pan while baking a cheesecake.
Is this acceptable or is there a better way? I don't want to let go of the bottom of my pans to people I don't know really well, but want to give them a cake for the holidays.

Help.....
Thanks, Deborah in Katy, TX

I used parchment paper on the bottom of a springform pan during the Thanksgiving holidays. I placed the paper over the bottom and secured it to the side piece like normal with the paper extending past the edge of the side piece. It worked PERFECTLY !!

Hi Deborah,
Welcome to the message boards! You can cut a sturdy piece of cardboard to just fit inside the bottom of your springform pan. Wrap the cardboard circle neatly with aluminum foil and place back inside the bottom of the springform pan. Grease the foil-covered circle as well as the sides of the springform pan before proceeding with your recipe. You will still need to let the cheesecake cool completely before removing the cheesecake from the pan. Good luck!
