Pretty sneaky. There's also a coloring called Blue Lake. What other color would a lake be? They should have just stuck with Lake.

Maybe it's because of the artificial coloring they use. Same as in those bright red cherries that they put into drinks. I'm not sure, but it might be Red 40.

I don't eat Nutrasweet at all. Look at all the other artificial sweeteners that have been pulled off the market after years of use. Nothing like the real thing.....sugar.....just use less of it!

According to the Nutrasweet company's website:
However, in some recipes requiring lengthy heating or baking, a loss of sweetness may occur; this is not a safety issue — simply the product may not be as sweet as desired. Therefore, it is best to use tabletop sweeteners with aspartame in specially designed recipes available from the manufacturers of these tabletop sweeteners. Aspartame tabletop sweeteners may also be added to some recipes at the end of heating to maintain sweetness.

Were you still planning to add the sugar to the meringue itself? Or use Splenda? (Nutrasweet won't work, but I'm sure you realized that. And unless you can find a sugar free flavored gelatin made without aspartame you won't be able to make this without the sugary gelatin, either.)

Michelle,
I am trying to follow the south beach diet and on stage 1 and I am very limited on desserts. I am sick of plain sugar free jell-o. Anyway, I was wondering if I can make Meringues using sugar free jello instead of full sugar jello gelatin. It looks like it would work, but I don't know about the texture when they bake up.

Thanks in advance,
