No, they are not the same. Whitefish is a fresh lake fish with edible skin, and whiting is a member of the cod family.

White fish is a generic type of fish, white and 'mild'. Whiting is a specific type of fish.

Sounds like your recipe is vague, leaving the option of fish up to you.

Hi could anyone tell me the difference between whitefish and whiting fillets. We tried looking for whitefish, but all I can find is frozen whiting fillets. Maybe they are the same??? Thank you
