Like cheese > for example, is expensive. One time 2lbs was on sale > for 6.99 and I wondered if I could get it cheaper so > over time I watched ads until one day it went to > $1.99!! I bought several and now I will only buy > cheese in that size if it's 1.99 or less. Never pay > full price for your everyday items!!
I agree! $1/8 oz cheese is a great price! Better stock up! It's cheaper than the $10 store (Sam's)!

The jello will not go soft when you add 1 tsp vinegar for every box of jello you make. You do not taste the vinegar.

With a husband who will leave the table if he sees anything green on his plate, plus a toddler who refuses to eat meat, veggies, cheese, and anything not dinosaur-shaped, I have become pretty good at hiding the veggies.
What works- Carrot puree+anything tomato-based. For my 2 year old, I put a bit of carrot puree in her ketchup and she never noticed the difference. Same to spaghetti sauces, chili, etc.etc.
tofu+stuffing. Not a veggie issue but my daughter refuses meat, so she thinks she is hot stuff if she can get away with eating only a bowl of stuffing. Bonus points for fine-chopping some canned green bean in there.
peppers are okay if you fine chop them and put them in something slightly chunky, like a thick stew or chili...kinda goes unnoticed under all the sauce, especially if there is a good amount of meat.
butternut squash+cake/bread mixes. The sweetness of the veggie works with bready baked items. Try to make sure the color of the mix matches slightly, or your cover is blown, lol.
What DOES NOT WORK-
Avacado+ANYTHING. I dont care what Jessica Seinfeld says! If you put pureed Avocado in brownies, it will have a dark, trash-like aftertaste, if you can muster the stomache to swallow it. It will also make your brownies NOT rise, so they become shriveled little squares of sadness. Maybe if you try to pull this on your kids from day one they wouldnt figure it out...but they probably wouldnt want to eat it either. Your first clue, if you read the book, is that you need the brownies to cool completely for the taste to disappear....but trust me, it doesnt!
Too much of anything- unfortunately these purees only work in small doses , maybe a tablespoon or two of veggies per dinner plate...which is better than nothing and does add up to better nutrition. But if you use too much, your food critics (aka family) will be able to tell!!!

I only buy Jello Pudding mixes in the box now. It doesn't make sense to buy pudding cups at 3.69 for a 6 pack in my area when I can buy an 89 cent box of Jello pudding mix and make just as much. Same with Jello gelatin. Buy the Glad cups with lids and you are set to put them in a lunch box.

First, I go to Dollar Tree for all my canned goods and spices. They also accept food stamps for anyone that can do that.
My biggest saver is potatoes. Just fry two or three and add to ground beef, it will stretch the meat and also adds flavor.
Another thing I do is brown ground beef, add mashed potatoes, about 1/4 can cream of mushroom(generic brand, freeze the rest), whatever vegetable I have on hand, throw some cheese on top and put in oven until melted. Sometimes I add 1 italian sausage for different flavor.

I don't think we have any .99 stores in our area that actually have food. There was one, but it closed not long ago. I wish we did, this is a great tip.

My mother in law would enjoy all three. =D
Seriously, as a farmers wife she's more about stretching the food than being fancy, I learned a lot from her. In this economy anything that stretches is good!

I can get three meals from one chicken. I throw it in the crock pot and cook for four or five hours. Once it is falling off the bone, it is easy to pick the meat off and divide into three portions. My first meal will be chicken and rice. I just use icooked rice and add some cream of chicken or mushroom soup to the chicken and rice mix. Not fancy, but we eat it. The second time around we have tacos. I put chicken in a shell, I pile on the chopped tomatoes and onion, top it all off with cheese and sour cream. The third meal will be noodles with chicken and veggies, usually chopped carrots and broccoli. just cooked till tender and added to the noodles add chicken with a little chicken broth, green onions chopped on top.
These are not meals you would serve your Mother in law but for a quick meal, they are cheap and filling if less than great.

For those who live near a .99 store. That is the first place to shop. You can always find what you want or need but when they have things that you use all the time you can stock up. I just got 10 cans or albacore tuna for .99 a can, 8oz Challenge butter and a number of other things that was on my list. I then went to the market and saw how much I had saved. Challenge butter was 2.79 for 1 pound.
