That's awesome! And you did the test run first... even better! My sister loves to try new things out... on Thanksgiving... so we often get something memorable because it's not so good. lol She's not a bad cook, but ovens are different, cooking dishes are different, and sometimes, things just look good in a recipe or picture that may not be so good on your own table.

So today I made my very first Turkey Dinner - all by myself! it turned out great...I cooked the turkey, breast side down, rubbed down with butter, garlic powder, salt & pepper, in an oven bag and it browned nicely and was very moist - the only thing I would do different is turned it over half way thru cooking so the breast side would have gotten browned as well - I made mashed potatoes w/gravy, a packet gravy mix but it was good, and I added some of the turkey drippings to it...I also made sweet potato casserole, which I am now a fan of - it was great, not too sweet, just right - I also made stuffing, just stove top but it was good...and made fresh bread - well from a frozen dough, let it rise on the counter for hours and it was awesome...green beans & cranberry sauce topped it off...it was great!! My husband coudln't stop talking about how great everything was - he was very proud of me :)

and for dessert, my peanut butter pie :)

Hey, Krista, thanks so much for the hint about the turkeys being on sale. Even though we aren't responsible for the turkey this thanksgiving, I got one and put it in the freezer. Mine cost $5.33 but still a great price for feeding company during the holidays.

Good Luck on your thanksgiving dinner Krista082980. You have a great idea to start small with just your family. I'm sure you will do fine. I use those turkey bags- (I think they are by butterball but not sure) you put some onions and celery and flour in the bag along w/ the turkey- brush on some oil salt & pepper- and it cooks itself in the bag- nice and juicy. Some don't think it gets as brown on the outside, but it DOES brown anyway. Maybe not as well as Martha Stewart's but still good and tastes great w/ no basting. I'm sure you will do fine. Have a great holiday.

krista082980, Carnival Foods & Giant Eagle, in our area in Ohio, have it for .29 cents a lb. with a purchase,:), their own brand. I always bake mine in a pan, sliped into a brown grocery bag, breast side down and ballanced with 2 potatoes. Put a small amount of water in the bottom of the pan and staple the bag shut. i bake it 30 minutes per pound unless the insturction on the turkey wraper say different, follow them. If I don't put bread stuffing in it, I put 1 each onion & apple cut up, a few stalks of celery and 1 stick of butter/margarine. I also salt & pepper it before putting it in the pan. annaskf
