I've had a great fruit dip at a cocktail party that was real simple. Just mix cream cheese and cool whip.

Add some fruit kabobs or chocolate dipped strawberries. Kraft has a good recipe that I've used: http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/recipes/orchard-bacon-cheddar-kabobs-52617.aspx
Marinated Mozzarella is good, too. Just take a couple pounds of block mozzarella cheese and cut into cubes. Put it in a big ziplock with some Kraft sundried tomato vinnegrette, a teaspoon or so of crushed red pepper flakes if desired, and some chopped chives or green onions for more color. Marinate at least four hours or overnight. You can also add some whole black olives to make it really pretty. Serve with toothpicks.
Good luck and have fun!

Tonight I made cocktail meatballs in crockpot and the veggie "pizza" and both turned out great. I asked my boyfriend to be my guinea pig and he asked for seconds. I will make both recipes for the shower.

I remember someone posting that they used this a while back and it went over very well. Fruit pizza was another variation.

Wow! What great ideas. The tea sandwiches look adorable, and pinwheels would be easy and portable, too. You are right, meatballs are a hit and they would make a nice hot appetizer. The links, directions, and portion calculator are all helpful and much appreciated.
I found a recipe for a veggie "pizza" (but not like a real pizza, so mom-to-be won't be nauseated): You use crescent roll dough for the crust, let it cool, top it with cream cheese, then top with raw chopped veggies and cut into small pieces. It appeals to me because it sounds portable and I could serve at room temperature. Has anyone made this recipe successfully? Thanks again for taking the time.

My Aunt JuJu made the BEST meatballs for my baby shower. You mix a bag of meatballs (from Costco) with a jar of cocktail sauce and a jar of grape jelly in a Crockpot on low until hot and the sauce is bubbly. They are so good. Everyone requested the receipe. Good luck!

"Swedish" meatballs in the crockpot have always been a hit at potlucks I've brought them to. Get a large bag of the frozen meatballs (Costco has really good ones), place in the crockpot with a couple of cans of cream of mushroom soup and then heat on high for a couple of hours. You can make some noodles ahead of time and toss them with olive oil to prevent them from sticking together. Serve the noodles in a decorative bowl next to the meatballs. If you don't want to do the noodles, you can also serve them with little mini rolls and people can make little meatball sandwiches.

HotBiscuit, I hear people out here talking about getting foodstuffs from Wal-Mart all the time... I don't think mine carry food, at least not the one closest to me. I've seen them in FLA, but in central NJ, can't say that I have.

Tamire1, have you ever tried the spinach dip from Wal-Mart deli? There are 2 kinds BUT ONLY buy the Santa Barbara's as the other brand tastes like baby food. The Santa Barbara's tastes almost exactly like homemade and even has the water chestnuts already in it. I've never added worchestshire to mine but will try it next time. Thanks for the tip!

A spinach dip has always been a big hit in my circles. Knorr's Vegetable Soup has a recipe on the box, excellent. Not sure if diced water chestnuts and a sprinkle or 3 of worchestshire sauce is listed in their recipe but I always add them to mine. I don't often do the bread bowl for serving, although it is quite pretty, but I always cut up and toast pita chips as dippers.

How about doing a salad that's a meal? Like chicken caesar salad. You can make everything at home and assemble it at the site. Serve with rolls or breadsticks.
Or doing a pasta salad with protein in it? Like chicken, grapes, penne pasta, onion, and a ceasar or ranch type dressing.
Just some other thoughts for you...

It does sound as if you have this well in hand.
What do you think of making “tea” sandwiches? The fillings don't have to be fancy -- egg, tuna and ham salad or cream cheese with flavorings such as chives, olives or even chipped beef -- or Philadelphia flavored cream cheese. They can be as elegant as you'd like by the way you cut and present them. I have used cookie cutters for shapes or just cut them into “ribbons” [about 1” wide] for showers. Here are the suggestions from Kraft for tea sandwiches. They also have many ideas for sandwich fillings if you use the search feature at the top of the page. (Some sound so good!)
I make a dish with cocktail wieners and/or kielbasa with barbeque sauce that everyone seems to love. I lightly brown the wieners in a frying pan while I slice the kielbasa in rounds a little thicker than ¼ inch. Then I brown the sliced kielbasa in the frying pan to cook them and get some of the extra fat out of them. I put everything in the crock-pot as I get them cooked with a little barbeque sauce. When the meat is all done I add enough barbeque sauce to coat all of the meat well. I make my own barbeque sauce, but any good barbeque sauce works well.
I also suggest a veggie platter with dip or a fruit (or cracker) and cheese platter. They are easier to deal with than a real salad; both for you and the guests.
There is a section with Baby and Bridal Shower recipes here. The Chicken Alfredo Pesto Pasta looks great. Any potluck or crockpot recipes will work well for you, too.
