Excellent tip! Just be careful that if it's a dish that is being transported in the pan you baked or cooked the item in, that it may do some further "cooking" as you travel, so you don't want it to dry out.

I have done this as well. It works great, plus if the dish spills over, the mess is in your towel and not your car.

I frequently travel with food and have found that if it needs to be hot, I "bake" it the day of for the complete time required, wrap in two layers of foil (one each way), then wrap in my heaviest bath towels, put in my "cooler" and make it just fine for several hours. Additionally, when I have more than one casserole to take, I will put a cake rack on top of the first towel wrapped dish and then put the second towel wrapped dish. If you have a juicy dish, try putting something taller in the four corners and then put the rack on top of these for your second layer. I have also done this in reverse with cold foods and not had to use nearly the ice I would otherwise need. The towels are the secret.

How about peanut butter bars? They don't have to be kept cold or warm. it's 6 cups of cornflakes in a big bowl. In a medium saucepan mix together 1 cup sugar, 1 cup peanut butter, and one cup white corn syrup. Slowly bring to a slow boil stirring constantly. When sugar is disolved pour mixture over the corn flakes. Stir well then pour into a buttered 9x13 inch cake pan. Press down and let cool. Before ti cools you may press decorations into it. Candy pieces or chocolate chips. Good luck!

Why don't you make a pound cake such as 7-up, etc. It will hold up and travel will if you store in a plastic cake holder.

Church Potluck - 1.5 hour drive

Posted: Oct 6, 2009 4:26 PM
Hi everyone! I need a little help! I'm attending the 75th anniversary of my "home" church. I would like to take something for the potluck dinner, but I live an hour and a half away! Does anyone have any suggestions of a dish that travels well and for that length of time??? We will be driving down that morning. I would like a fall themed item, but at this point I'm desperate!!!

Thanks for your help!
