I like this one as an appetizer. Shrimp can easily be used as a finger food and doesn't need to be cut.

Ingredients
1/2 C. butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp. ground peppercorns, hot or mild mixture
1 tsp. olive oil with dash of red pepper flakes added
2 Tbs. chopped fresh parsley
1 1/2 lb. raw medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
2 Tbs. olive oil
Salt and pepper

Directions
In small saucepan, combine butter, garlic, peppercorns, and the oil with red pepper. Simmer over low heat until butter is melted and the just garlic begins to sizzle. Remove from heat; stir in the fresh parsley. Thread shrimp on 4 or 5 skewers. Brush with olive oil. Place the shrimp in center of cooking grate. Grill 4-5 minutes until pink, and no longer white. Turn once during grilling. Remove shrimp from skewers; toss with butter mixture. Serve hot.

Yield: 4 servings

Sounds like a wonderful idea, especially Cheddar's build your own sandwich table with different types of buns and rolls.

Grilled mixed sausages such as Italian hot or mild, bratwurst knackwurst, kielbasa might go over well and are definitely a "finger food".

You might also consuder baby back ribs that are already marinated in BBQ sauce. These could be cooked ahead of time and kept warm in a large metal bake pan on a corner of the grill or even in and oven. Be sure to have several rolls of paper towels handy as nakins won't do for this "finger food".

Have you ever considered sweet corn in the husks on a grill? I have a Weber Grill recipe if you need it

Cheddar's menu sugestions should make everyone happy!

Chef Bill sez: "Don't forget to have some dips for the chips, some assorted sliced cheeses, and as we do here in Maine..always have baked beans. Have fun!!"

How about grilling boneless skinless chicken breasts and setting up a Build-Your-Own-Chicken-Sandwich table? You could have a couple of different types of buns/rolls, different types of mustards, sliced tomatoes and onions, etc. Serve a couple of different sides like potato salad, macoroni sald, cole slaw, chips, pickles, etc.

Serve fruit and a variety of cupcakes for dessert.

Kabobs. Everything is already cut up for your guests and you can have different kinds for different tastes.

Cook-Out Ideas

Posted: May 10, 2007 5:02 PM
My Hubby's birthday is comming up and he wants to have a cookout for his birthday. There will be a big group (around 30), and I am looking at alternatives to burgers and hot dogs. I am looking for ideas that don't involve much cutting for the guest (ie steaks) as we will be using paper plates (well, foam plates, but you get the point :) Any other ideas for an easy cookout main dish?
