I always love to go with a theme, how about french? Here is a menu for a French dinner party on a budget
Whether you are drawn to the provencal cuisine of southern France or the world-renowned epicurean fare of Paris, a French-themed dinner party promises to be an exquisite evening.
This menu features recipes with princely items, such as crepes and cream for a peasant’s price.
French cooking may seem fussy, but these recipes favor the frugal. The total cost of this menu should set you back a mere $50.
* Baby Red Potato Halves with Chive Cream (recipe)
* Sherried Cream Mushroom Crepes (recipe)
* Caramelized Apples Over Ice Cream (recipe)
Estimated Cost Breakdown:
Baby Red Potato Halves with Chive Cream $4 - 1 (2 lb.) bag baby red rose potatoes $2 - 1 (8 oz.) container sour cream $2 - 1 (.66 oz.) package fresh chives
Sherried Cream Mushroom Crepes $2 - 1 dozen eggs $1 - 1 pint whole milk $2 - 1 (2 lb.) bag flour $3 - 1 (24 oz.) bottle vegetable oil $4 - 1/2 lb. butter $9 - 3 (8 oz.) packages sliced button mushrooms $6 - 1 small bottle cooking sherry $4 - 1 pint heavy cream $1 - 1 bunch parsley
Caramelized Apples Over Ice Cream $0 - butter (included above) $2 - 3 Red Delicious apples $2 - 1 (1 lb.) box brown sugar $4 - 1 (1 1/2) quart container vanilla ice cream
$48 - Estimated Total

That's a really great idea! That way, the cheese lovers can add their own cheese to it and the others can leave it out.

Tacos!!! It's such a fun food, and inexpensive if you buy the ground beef in larger packages. Plus, part of party is the process of putting together the individual tacos.
I know it is probably too late - you've already been to the supermarket and back, but thought I'd chime in.

Definitely something on the grill - maybe ribs (hot dogs for the kiddos) with a pasta salad (Kraft has a ton of pasta salad recipes that are quick and easy)!

What about using your grill for a BBQ? Or use your crock pot & have pulled pork BBQ sandwiches or sloppy joes. Side dishes can be any kind of salad, beans, or fruit.
What about baking a ham?

Dinner Idea for a group, without -a lot- of cheese?? Help!

My family is having a get together tomorrow (I was just told, ahh!) with 11-14 people, and I need a dinner idea ASAP to get groceries tonight or tomorrow morning. There will be 4 kids so I need something kid-friendly, but also, my brother has been having issues with 'too much cheese' in our dinners.. what? we love cheese! Not really sure.. but we usually do lasagna or stuffed shells when we have larger groups, and both of those have too much cheese to make him happy. So my mom and I are looking for an idea of something to make in a large portion size, without too much cheese, not too complicated, and wont use up every dish in the kitchen!
We usually make something with chicken or beef, but we have way to much parmesan chicken, spaghetti, and burgers. We need something new! It's supposed to be warmer here in upstate NY tomorrow so we could use our grill.. We're big fans of potato salad, but it takes a long time especially when you've got to make an entree as well.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
