I make the water chestnuts wrapped in bacon also. I go one step further and use 1/3 c. sugar(brown or white), and 1/3 c. ketchup. I cook them for 15 minutes and then add then spoon the ketchup over them and bake for 15 more minutes. The go real fast.

One of our favorites is:
2 cans of whole waterchestnuts
1lb of bacon cut in half

Wrap the whole waterchestnuts with a half slice of bacon each. Secure bacon with a round toothpick. Broil until bacon is done (about 15minutes) Enjoy!

Well as I said in the original post, there's no lettuce involved, so yes, I suppose the onions are substituted for the lettuce.

> Or is it because of taco bell?
No, Taco Bell doesn't have anything to do with this recipe.

I wouldn't recommend it, but you could use the cream to thin out the filling.

Yes.

Yes, plain yogurt would be a nice addition.

If I don't have sour cream, can I leave regualr cream out of the refrigerator until it gets sour?

If I don't have mayo, can I use Miracle Whip?

How about yogurt? Can I use plain yogurt instead of either the sour cream or the mayo, or both?

Here's an appetizer recipe that's a bit labor intensive but really yummy...they're called BLT Bites, but there's no lettuce involved, LOL.

Two pints cherry tomatoes, tops sliced off, seeded, and drained (I place mine upside down on a paper towel while I mix the filling)
1 package cream cheese--regular or light, your choice
4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
4 green onions, thinly sliced
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
black pepper to taste

Combine filling ingredients, fill tomatoes, and chill for at least one hour for flavors to blend. You may need more or less filling, depending on size of tomatoes...also, if you find the filling is a bit thick, try stirring in a bit of sour cream to thin...this may make it easier to stuff the tomatoes. You could also use mayo if you don't have sour cream on hand.
Hope this helps!

With all of the bacon it just makes me feel a little better to cut fat anywhere else I can, and the cheese does not melt out of the peppers because it has the bacon around it.
If you go to a farmers market or someplace with a really good produce section you can get jalapenos that are labeled mild or hot, if you go somewhere else it can be a gamble, but I seem to find that the bigger they are the milder they are. And the cheese and bacon do a lot to equal out the taste, trust me you will have TONS of compliments if you make these.

I have a mexican restaurant in my neighborhood that makes bunelitos...(bunuelos)... which are basically tortillas that are coated with cinnamon and sugar...think tacobell cinnamon twists. They always give chocolate syrup and honey for dipping too. I'm sure you can find a recipe or better yet..a mexican restaurant that makes them! This is something different and both adults and kids like them! Happy Holidays!

That sounds good! But why bother with fat reduced cream cheese if it's gonna sop up bacon grease?

Also, how do you keep the cream cheese from melting out of the pepper?

And are the peppers really hot (spicy?)

I take this to just about every party I attend and always get the best compliments.

Jalapenos cut in half and seeded
Fill with cream cheese (I use fat reduced)
Wrap with 1/2 piece of bacon
Put in oven until bacon well done
(works best on broiling pan so the fat drips off)

• Star-shaped sandwiches (cut peanut butter and jelly or ham and cheese into celestial shapes)
• Pigs in blankets
• Mini pizzas

Have fun.

How about string cheese and candy canes? (If it is a Chrismas party).

Then Little Meatblass in gravy and chocolate truffle candies.

Then Ritz crackers with a spritz of cheese and Nilla Wafers with a spritz of canned frosting (you can use the same frosting as fromthe truffles).

These finger foods all have the same shape!

Holiday Finger Foods

Posted: Dec 11, 2006 4:08 PM
I have three different holiday parties to attend all asking to bring a finger food... most of the same people will be at all three parties.
I would like to take something delicious and different to all three. I was thinking of taking two things to each... something sweet and then another kind of appetizer or finger food to each party.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
