Thank you all for the wonderful ideas! I just knew that I could count on this board to see me through Thanksgiving. I am actually thinking of being creative and making my own stuffing for the turkey. ( I will serve those wonderful stuffing balls, as well ) I've read so much about Fig Newtons here, and figs are a Fall food that go well with Thanksgiving fare. I'm trying to come up with a Fig Newton recipe for my bird. I may use half bread crumbs ( Wonder, of course ) and half Fig Newtons. Since sausage just adds expense to my meal, I may shred up some Spam and add it to the mix. I'm still working on the recipe but I will report back when I have it figured out.

hi florence. that looks really good. but maybe not so much for thanks giving. if culleen is thinking about a brunch idea, and i dont think that she is, but here is a suggestion, an egg and stuffing casserole. slice up your favorite bread buttered on both sides and fit it into a 9x9 pan. you may need to trim some of the bread. brown 1/2 lb turkey sausage and 3/4 c mixed peppers and onions, drain and pour over bread next scramble 6 -7 eggs depending on size with 1/4 c h2o and 1/4 milk and pour over meat mixture and bread sprinkle a mix of cheddar and jack cheeses . leave in your fridge for 4 - 12 hrs. bake at 375 for 35 minutes. sprinkle more cheese on of desired.

You could be right. I shouldn't be so sensitive. I hope we're all helpful putting together an impressive meal.

I could be wrong, but I think she was referring to the OP's trying to outshine her MIL.
As to the question, well, some MILs just beg to be outshined. It is what it is.

The spirit of my message is that it's refreshing to find fig newtons in savory recipes in addition to dessert recipes. I'm impressed at its versatility.

Whoa. Why do you have to outshine her? It's not a competition!
