I LOVE that stuff. We don't make it at thanksgiving- but rather at Easter dinner. Totally not a healthy recipe, though. I've managed to make it by cutting back on the butter quite a bit- and using albino whole wheat bread cubes; but it still is loaded with sugar and fat. I never eat dessert when we have it, though. To me it is better than any dessert!

Thanksgiving isn't thanksgiving without pumpkin pie! I usually just follow the recipe on the back of the pumpkin pie can :) Its easy and fun.
Its a tradition in my family to save the turkey bones and boil them to make some very good broth for soup! Nothing is better than homemade turkey Soup and leftover turkey for sandwiches....

Happy thanksgiving all!

I make this pie all the time and everyone loves it! They always ask for the recipe and when I tell them they can't believe how simple it is! I never make it for Thanksgiving though.....on this holiday I stick to the more traditional harvest theme of pumpkin, apples and sweet potatoes.

We always make a cranberry salad for Thanksgiving. It just wouldn't be Thanksgiving without it. As for stuffing, I have tried it many different ways, and now the only kind I will eat is StoveTop Stuffing! LOL, it is the best I have ever had, anywhere! :) :-x

That pie sounds wonderful and incredibly simple. My husband loves cream pies. I think he might really like this one. Thanks! :)

My mother makes the BEST roast turkey, it is a german recipe and the stuffing (cooked inside the turkey as it roasts) is made out of ground veal, ground bacon, and ground pork (which I have made to ground turkey and veal products because of pork allergies), it has olives, capers, rum, prunes, raisins, pimentos, garlic, and all kinds of other spices and seasonings, sounds weird, I know, but it makes THE BEST gravy EVER!!!!!

>jen, just curious, are you not a burger girl??? Like no McDonald's for you either??? or Burger King, or whatever???

I've never eaten at White Castle either. And besides an occasional French Fry and diet Coke when the kids were little and insisted on going to Fast Food for the toys (one year, my son's preschool even had a horrifying field trip to a McDonalds).. I haven't eaten fast food in many years.
I don't eat many Hamburgers, but if and when I do... I'll only eat from one of two local places (both ranked nationally for the quality of their hamburgers) or I'll eat them if either my husband or myself makes them. As a family, we just really don't do fast food. Even the kids no longer want to eat Fast Food (now that the toys have lost their appeal- they realized that the food actually tastes terrible!) If we have to eat out in a rush, we'll do ethnic food, or a salad or sandwich shop. Someplace where we can get food freshly made that's lower in fat and sodium and higher in fiber, vitamins and minerals.

My sister always makes a Coke salad for Christmas dinner. It is a congealed salad made with lemon jello and Coke with pecans on top. Sounds strange but is very good.

I definitely prefer the dressing separate from the bird. But, it is ok to stuff the turkey as long as you don't do it in advance and do it right before you place the bird in the over.

I make what I think is traditional Southern Dressing. I use cornbread (real southern cornbread not sweet), a couple of slices of white bread or leftover biscuits, 2 or 3 eggs, onions, salt, black pepper (lots), sage, poultry seasoning and chicken broth. My Mom never liked turkey broth so neither do I. I usually boil a whole chicken, use that broth plus canned if needed, and chop up some of the chicken to add to the dressing (optional). The eggs help bind it. I make sure it is very soft but not too runny before I put it in the pan for the oven. I too can cut mine in squares without any problem. My MIL needs a knife to cut her dressing and it should not be like that.

I can't even imagine a stuffing made out of WC. To me they taste just list Krystals. We usually have dressing not stuffing and it is made with cornbread. I love my cornbread dressing and even eat it for breakfast if I have any leftover.
