I remember getting into trouble when I was 3 or 4 b/c I kept getting into the freezer and eating the hotdogs. Couldn't imagine doing it now though

when my friends and I were around 14 we would walk down to the local store on the weekends buy a package of hot dogs and a can of spray cool whip and eat them raw with cool whip on the way home. Thinking about it now I am not sure how I did that but someone mentioned frozen hot dogs and that brought back memories. The things we do as kids!

lol... i had no idea there was more people who liked cold cooked hot dogs too... hmmm.... I always make one extra when I make them for my family for dinner so i can have one in the fridge to eat cold the next day for lunch. All beef hotdogs cooked over a BBQ or grill are the best!

I loved to eat unheated hot dogs... but never tried them frozen. Interesting... but I don't think I'll be giving it a go lol. Just give me snowcones please.

I'd forgotten frozen hotdogs! We did the same as kids, it was great on a hot summer day, like a pops but more filling.

Technically, there could be a very small risk of listeria (as with all luncheon meats) but it's not a likely occurance. It would be more of an issue if the hot dog came from a butcher or other such shop where it would be purchased from the counter rather than from a sealed package.
That being said- we used to eat frozen hot dogs as kids- so I guess cold is no less 'gross' than that. As long as you're adding the freezer pack- this isn't a battle I would fight. Let her do as she likes! At least she's eating her lunch.

I have one that likes them fried and one that likes them out of the fridge cold. Both my husband and I will eat them either way. You may find it gross but it shouldn't hurt them. =)
If she is liking them cold you might want to try cutting them up with a side of ketchup. My youngest one always enjoyed that as a lunch on the go.

Our 4 year old has started 1/2 day preschool this year, and she takes her lunch almost every day. She doesn't get hot dogs very often, but when I send them I have been putting her them in her lunch box cold (in a ziplock bag) along with a bun and the regular sides (carrot sticks, veggie chips, etc...), and I ALWAYS add a freezer pack. I had always assumed that she was having her hot dogs heated for just a few seconds in the class microwave - but i was informed by her teacher the other day that our daughter prefers her hot dogs cold! gross!! IMO as long as they are kept cold there isn't any concern with her getting sick - I just think it's kind of nasty. Does anybody else have a child that eats their hot dogs cold?

I'm all for eating healthy, but every once in awhile you just have to have something sinful! Nothing wrong with that - just don't make a habit of it.

Not all hotdogs are created equal. I have a chewing challenged preschooler so I have searched and searched for something that seems like what all the other kids eat and well I found Organic nitrate free hot dogs ! They are low fat ( as much as hot dog can be) and not added fillers,. yes I pay a price but when he takes a hot dog to school hes "one of the guys" I slice them, cook them and add them to "hot" chili with a roll on the side and hes in "hot dog" heaven! The thermos keeps it hot but it has cooled to eating temp by lunch time so it's a win win for us at least

No, sorry.
Once you find out what cheap gas station hot dogs are made of, you usually lose your taste for them forever.

Welcome to the community, veronicajames1102, and what a GREAT tip on bringing along your very own chili dogs for lunch. I never would have thought of that!!
And maybe it's just me, but has anyone else (who doesn't eat hot dogs very much) gotten very very hungry and been in a gas station with one of the convenience shops and just went to the little hot dog grill drooling?
I'm not a big hot dog eater, but sometimes those hot dogs taste like heaven on a bun.
There's a lot to be said about hunger being the best flavoring there is.

I haven't heard of using hot water to keep the hot dogs warm for lunch. However, I have cooked the hot dogs all the way through first thing in the morning, (to piping hot!) and also heated up homemade chili, again to really, really hot. Fill a thermos with the chili and then put the whole hot dogs in the thermos of chili, and pack buns and shredded cheese separate along side. At lunch, pull out the dog, put on the bun and top with chili and cheese. Everything has always still been steaming hot! Again, not the healthiest option, unless I am using my homemade chili, which I double up on beans and veggies, including shredded carrots and zucchini.
