That's just how I like mine too. Black pepper, salt and a sprinkle of the "salad toppings" in the can. It has seeds and dehydrated vegetables in it. I also love to use cottage cheese as my salad dressing in place of anything else. Really good.

>Cutting back on sugar is impossible if you eat cottage cheese. There are 4 grams of sugar in 1/2 cup of cottage cheese. If you eat a cup, it is the same as eating 1/4 of a twix bar.Hmmmm...

>How about eating vegetables and fruits alone? Why not put down the dairy (since you aren't a cow) and drinking some nice green tea with almond butter (organic of course) on some apple slices?

Well, first of all, 1/4 of a Twix bar is 1/7th of a serving- or half of a FUN sized bar. Now, who would eat that as a filling snack? Get serious. And a Twix bar lacks the protein, calcium, vitamins and minerals found in cottage cheese (and other dairy products).

Now obviously you choose to avoid dairy, which is fine. However, it does put you at risk for multiple nutrient deficiencies if you do not carefully plan your diet. Even the substitute snack that you suggested (though quite healthy) lacks the calcium, vitamin D (when fortified), riboflavin, phosphorus, & vit B12 and A found in the cottage cheese. When paired with fresh fruit or veggies (personally, I prefer vegetable pairing myself as well)- it goes a long way in encouraging intake in someone who otherwise might not be getting a serving of F/V.

Personally, I would love to see people choose BOTH your suggested snack- and a serving of dairy throughout their day. Simply not being a cow does not preclude us from being able to choose dairy as a healthy part of a balanced diet.

It's funny how different people are. I've always liked cottage cheese, but I don't like it with fruit. I like mine either plain or with chopped cherry tomatoes, raw squash or cucumber. I've tried eating it with fruit, but it just doesn't taste right to me.

Yes, cottage cheese does look pretty nasty, and the texture is definitely something I have had to get past. But, it doesn't taste anything like yogurt. Yogurt is either sweet, or if you get it plain, it's kind of bitter. Cottage cheese has a very mild savory taste to it. I used to hate cottage cheese and have basically forced myself to like it because it is a perfect protein and much better for me than yogurt. However, the only way I can eat it is with some fresh fruit. This is a very healthy option that doesn't have too much sugar. However, if the fruit you're eating it with is from a can or is from the "Doubles" packs, there's tons of added sugar and it's not nearly as healthy as it could be.

OMG!!!! I saw a recipe just like that on TV! it looked sooooo good. I'm glad that I've finally found an unbiased review! The people that review the FTV recipes don't always seem like they're being honest. Thanks!:-D

Yes! My mom used to make a very spicy dish in her couscousiere that we kids couldn't eat. It burned our mouths!

Cottage cheese reminds me too much of my great Aunt's "Depression Lasagna"

You know those foods that are so horrible as a child that you can't eat them as an adult?

I like cottage chesse but feel I have to mix it with something like pancake syrup or ketchup to make it taste good. I buy the large turd kind.

I really like eating cottage cheese with fruit. Growing up my mom would also have it as a side dish - cottage cheese & sliced peaches, or with pineapple. The cottage doubles are a great easy way to get this same affect.I also eat it with a fresh tomato or sometimes just with salt & pepper.

I'm getting that extra protein & calcium and it makes me feel good about snacking.
