Now I wonder what more of you keep in your fridge that I might not know about? Any of you have an unusual idea? I use the fridge for every purpose that I can because it really does extend the shelf like on most things. Especially nuts and oils, they go rancid much slower when refrigerated, oatmeal never gets stale, chips either...like corn chips that you would use for a casserole or soup topper. I would love to hear any other ideas!

We have an extra one for eggs and veggies (garden season) that I keep flour in. I, too, hadn't thought of spices. Good way to buy bulk size and refill smaller containers for daily use, thanks for the tip!

Good idea. I do the same thing with my flour, cornmeal, grits, crackers etc....the fridge keeps the extra fresh forever but I have never thought to store my spices there. What a great idea. I happen to be cleaning out the fridge tomorrow so you can bet I'm gonna have to create a spice shelf now. Thanks for the great tip.

I have an extra small refrig and I keep all my spices in that and they never get old or buggy. Spices are too expensive to have to throw out.

Hi everyone, I noticed on my krogers Pumpkin pie Spice can that the list of ingredents was in a different order: cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger,& cloves. You might want to look at your favorite brand and see if it's different, just use the same measurements following the list. But remember!, Don't mix new and old spices, the new may over power the old, Annaskf

I've been away for a couple of days, but let me add my thanks on your recipe. Come mid-November you won't be able to find the premixed pumpkin pie spice plus it is really expensive. This is just great!

I never thought of pumpkin ice cream, I think I'm too hooked on it being warm (as in pie) to enjoy it cold.

Thanks, Anna! This is a very helpful tip/recipe! I love to make everything taste like pumpkin when autumn rolls around. A local ice cream maker makes pumpkin spice ice cream... it's DIVINE.

Since some recipe call for these and you may not have it on hand but have the other spices, here's how to mix your own: apple Pie spice: 2 t. ground cinnamon,1 t. ground nutmeg, 1/2 t. allspice, 1/2 t. caradom, mix together. Pumpkin pie spice: 4 t. ground cinnamon,2 t. ground ginger, 1 t. ground cloves, 1/2 t. ground nutmeg, mix together. i like to use either one of these in the following besides pies: flavored teas, coffee, autium tea,hot apple juice or cider, cookies, cake mixes, homemade donuts and the powdered sugar for them, pancakes, & french toast. annaskf
