If you have the tub still, I would take it back tothe store. Or send it to Kraft, as it may have been contaminated if the taste was that offensive. They might want to know.
Anyway, I am glad you and your family didn't eat it.

Thanks...you seem to know a lot about it.
From what I've read, Polysorbate's give more of a soapy taste. This was distinctly metallic.
There is no way Cool Whip is supposed to taste like this (it was a strong aluminum foil taste...and I mean STRONG). I have never seen six kids all reject Cool Whip (many who usually LOVE it) like this.

Peter,
Cool Whip is nothing more than water, corn syrup , shortening and chemicals .
The metallic taste you describe is probably completely normal, thanks to alll the chemicals in it. But I would suggest bringing it back to the store and exchanging it for another tub.
I know a lot of kids prefer whipped cream. Maybe yours might.

That's just the way Cool Whip tastes. You might have gotten a batch that had more petroleum products or polysorbates than usual. I've heard liberal use of flavored extracts will produce a different fake taste to distract your tastebuds.

I just bought CoolWhip for my son's birthday at the local Acme. I brought it home, immediately put it in my freezer and took it out the next day (along with the ice cream) and began scooping out the CoolWhip while it was stil semi-frozen.
My kids told me they didn't like it (is that even possible?!?) So I tried it and there was a distinctive metallic taste in it. My wife tried it, confirmed it as well so we immediately threw it away. The expiration date was in August (when kept frozen). Anybody know anything about this?
