I like to take mini pretzels and put a Rolo candy on top and put it in the oven until the candy is mushy. Be sure to use parchment paper! Take them out and immediately press a whole pecan down on top to press the candy into the pretzel. Yummy! I bet your caramels would be good to use in this recipe.

I'm not sure. The only way I've done it is by the recipe. I guess you could try it and see. Let me know what your results are!

Cookaholic, that looks like a great recipe. Not many ingredients and I'm sure the time put into it is worth it. Question for you, instead of wrapping them, can this recipe be used for caramel apples too? Or do you need to cook it to a different stage/temp?

This is the BEST caramel recipe EVER! U have never made nor tasted such good caramels! I made them once and they were gone in two days! They are sooo buttery and smooth!:-x

CREAMY CARAMELS

1 cup sugar
1 cup dark corn syrup
1 cup butter or margarine
1 can EAGLE brand cream (sweetened condensed milk)
1 teaspoon vanilla

Butter a 8-in. square pan. (Warning-do this well, or the caramels will stick); set aside. Combine sugar, corn syrup, and butter in a 3-qt. saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constatly. Boil slowly for 4 minutes without stirring. remove from heat and stir in milk. Reduce heat to medium-low heat, and cook until a candy thermometer reads 238 degrees (soft-ball stage), stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour into prepared pan. Cool. Remove from pan and cut into 1-in. squares. Wrap individually in waxed paper; twist the ends. YIELD: 64 pieces

These caramels are a little time consuming, but boy, are they worth it! Enjoy!

Those caramels sound fabulous... I can say I would have a problem if I made them. (I wonder how many would actually make it to the gift bags if I did make them...)

Thank you for sharing it!

This one sounds easy and good tasting, might be dangerous to make them year round. =D

linbribjsmom,
I make these every year for Christmas--don't know why I don't make them any other time, cuz I love em!, but here is the recipe

2 cups brown sugar
1 cup corn syrup
2 sticks butter
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup nuts

Put brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, milk and salt in heavy saucepan. Bring to 238-240 over medium heat. Remove from heat- stir in vanilla and then nuts if desired. Put in greased 7x11 pan. Let set--cut into pieces--wrap in wax paper.
