I found a very different type of bread pudding that I liked in my toaster oven recipe book, its more of a breakfast, lunch or dinner dish its not sweet like traditional bread pudding.
savory bread pudding 3 slices whole wheat or sour dough bread 1/2 c greated cheddar, gruyere or smoked gouda 3/4c milk or cream pinch of cayenne pepper 3eggs
cut slices of bread in half diagonally and arrange in pan. sprinkle w/cheese, in bowl w/ whisk or blender mix milk, pepper, and eggs and pour over bread. cover, refridgerate 4 hours or over night so bread can absorb liquid preheat toaster oven to 350 butter shallow gratin dish or roasting pan. than bake 30 min untill golden and puffy, allow to cool then spoon from dish and serve.
I liked it but i like strange things so nobody else may like it but it was fun to make.

We're just being silly here. I wish I knew why the deleted my post as I didn't say anything bad. The only negative word I may have used was the word insult. It was on a different board though.

Kellyyyy's recipe sounds very much like the one I use except that I do not warm the milk up first. In fact, I might even do that the next time because your cooking time is less than mine by about a half hour! But be warned: there are some really *bad* recipe ideas out there, like the one I had in a resturaunt. Basicly, it was toast slathered with custard sauce. ICK!!!

this one looks good:
5 slices white bread, crusts trimmed (i would substitute the raisin bread for this and then not add the raisins) 4 tablespoons softened butter 1/2 cup raisins 1 teaspoon cinnamon 3 cups milk 2/3 cup sugar 4 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla extract PREPARATION: Preheat oven to 350°. Lightly butter a shallow 12x8x2-inch baking dish. Butter bread slices generously with the butter. Cut each slice into 4 squares. Sprinkle raisins over the bottom of the prepared baking dish then arrange bread squares, buttered side up, over raisins. Sprinkle bread with the cinnamon. In a saucepan, heat milk just until bubbles form around edge; remove from heat. Add sugar, stirring until sugar is dissolved. In a large bowl, beat eggs; stir in hot milk mixture then stir in vanilla. Pour over bread in baking dish. Set baking dish in a larger baking pan then add about 1/2 to 1 inch of very hot water to the larger pan. Bake at 350° for 40 to 50 minutes, or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean. Remove baking dish from the larger pan of water and let cool for about 15 minutes before serving. Can be served warm or cold. Refrigerate unused portion. Bread pudding recipe makes 8 servings.
