I have always made mine like debdebk does, but I sprinkle with paprika along with the brown sugar and butter.

I love the recipe for the microwave. It will be so handy for when the oven is full of roasting chicken, or when I get home form work at 6:30 and don't have time to roast forever. Or any time, really.

Remember: there is no one "right way" to cook anything. I prefer the taste of roasted squash over steamed (or microwave) or even boiled. This is a fast, easy way for when you are in a hurry, though.

I can't believe with all these cooks here, they don't know how to make it fast and right.

acorn squash quick method to prepare it -- in the microwave, in a steamer bag for 20 minutes, with butter and brown sugar a table spoon of water and some salt and pepper, cut it in half, clean the seeds out, rince it off under tap water, make a flat spot on the bottom of each half so it sits flat, slide it into a (say) zip lock large steamer bag, zip it up, (if it to large to get both halfs into 1 bag then use 2 bags), remove it after 20 minutes, on high, and if you REALLY GOTTA HAVE IT golden brown on top, put it under the broiler in the oven for about 3 to 5 minutes. After you remove it from the plastic bag, put it on some foil BEFORE going under the broiler.

Now, how simple was that?.

Remember the K.I.S.S. rule

(keep it simple stupid).

Welcome to the community, debdebk. I tried this recipe just to see how the balsamic vinegar and maple syrup tasted together. It was surprisingly good. http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/recipes/simple-acorn-squash-107270.aspx

My hb and also enjoy acorn squash in the oven this time of year. I always just cut in half, place in dish with 1in. of water upside down and bake at 400 for 1hr. When their done is when we add butter and br.sugar. I have also heard of cooking them in the crockpot with cooked breakfast sausage in center and at the end add br.sugar. I think I will look up some new recipes for this. Happy fall!

I love to eat acorn squash too with butter and brown sugar. And I also like this acorn squash recipe from Kraft.

Instead of using italian sausage I substitute ground turkey or chicken and use Kraft lower sodium stuffing mix.

I look forward to acorn squash this time of the year -- my favorite method to prepare it -- in the oven with butter and brown sugar!

Any one have another method or favorite way to prepare squash? Please share.
