I love this receipe for the crockpot....very very simple and everyone loves it!!

Cowboy Chili

1 - 1 1/2 lb browned ground beef
1 pkg of Taco seasoning (add to beef when browning)
2 cans of Pinto Beans
1 can Black Beans
2 can Mexican style Stewed Tomatos
1 can Mexican Corn
1 can Rotel
1 pkg of Ranch Dressing

Put all of the above in the crockpot, cook on low all day!! You can cook high for fours hours, and is very tasty reheating the next day!! Yummy!!!

Great for "chili" days/nights!!

On most of these recipes, I see browning of the meat before it goes into the crock pot.. is this always necessary?? I know that it can "seal in" some of the flavors but I hate doing it because I always seem to burn a section (curse of trying to multi-task). Oh and I read that you have to put hot food in hot crockpot and vice versa.. I have never done this. Is this important?? Please advise!! :)

well...maybe not bacon and eggs
but have I have got a recipe for you hotdonna that you are going to just lov
but remember always. always put cold things in a cold crockpot and hot things in a hot crockpot
this is literally imperative, and you must always remember this. I know one time I didn't and it was a disaster!!
to start off all you will need is 2 (21oz) cans of apple pie filling just dump that in the cold crockpot
now to this I just want you to add 2 1/2 cups of granola cereal ( or whatever you have cherrios, trix, corn fakes, anything that you like) okay
then add 2 teaspoons cinnamon and
1/2 cup sugar, okay
and a llil bit ,maybe 1/3 stick, melted butter
now to truly make this my own, I always add 2 or 3 cinnamon sticks
this will give it great flavor
and during the last 3 mins. I like to put just 1,maybe 2 cups of cinnamon shnops
don't worry, all the alcohol will cook out!
and everyone will be very happy
now set on low for 3 hrs and you have a rich thick and delicious start to your day

How about a breakfast recipe?
I just made this the other day with cranberries. Yum!

OVERNIGHT OATMEAL

1 1/4 cups rolled oats

1/2 teaspoon salt

4 cups water

1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

1 cup dried fruit (such as raisins, cranberries, apricots, apples, blueberries or cherries)

1/4 cup maple syrup

In a 3 1/4 -quart slow cooker, combine all ingredients. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or overnight. Stir well and serve. Makes about four big bowlfuls.

This is a fun recipe to play with. Add a handful of your favorite nut. Top your bowl of warm oatmeal with granola, fresh fruit, brown sugar, butter, and/or a dash of milk.

It's easy getting out of bed, knowing your breakfast is warm, ready, and waiting for you. Sure warms you up on those chilly mornings. It makes the house smell yummy! And it's a very HEALTHY start of your day!!!

I found a great recipe for taco soup while surfing for crockpot recipes.

CHICKEN TACO SOUP

1 onion chopped
1 (16 ounce) can chili beans
1 (15 ounce) can black beans
1 (15 ounce) can whole kernel corn, drained
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
2 (10 ounce) cans dice tomatoes with green chiles, undrained
1 (12 ounce) can or bottle of beer or a small can chicken of broth
1 (1.25ounce) taco seasoning
3 whole skinless, boneless chicken breasts

optional: shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, crushed tortilla chips

1. Place the onion, chili beans, black beans, corn, tomato sauce, beer and diced tomatoes in slow cooker. Add taco seasoning and stir to blend. Lay chicken breasts on top of mixture pressing down slightly until just covered by the other ingredients. Set slow cooker for low heat, cover, and cook for 5 hours.

2. Remove chicken breasts from the soup, and allow to cool long enough to be handled. Shred the chicken and stir back into the soup and continue cooking for 2 hours. Serve topped with shredded cheese, a dolop of sour cream and crushed tortilla chips if desired.

ENJOY!

I use my slow cooker for Shabbat dinners and it's such a life saver for me! My favorite thing is a beef and barley casserole that I make with a nice piece of roast, barley, beef stock, and vegetables. You have to brown the roast first but it's not so hard. With a nice green salad and cookies for dessert it's perfect.

It's also good for bean soups and lentil soups. I make lentil with the meat from a smoked turkey leg and it's just marvelous! And my children think I did some kind of magic because the stove never got turned on but there's still a hot meal in front of them.

I agree with you. It's very easy to do this and dinner is ready when you are.

Make sure to add plenty of seasoning, tho. A package of Ranch dressing goes a long way. Some Catalina dressing or marmalade also kicks up the flavor!

I love crockpot cookery. It takes the thinking out of life.

Just throw a bunch of stuff and a can of soup in it and set it for 3 to 8 hours. Great. I love it.

And most of those countries use 220 VAC instead of 110, too. That could make a big difference in how long it takes to cook.

Yeah, and the time change has something to do with it too.
