Hello Kraft Community, we are very excited to share some great news with you. As loyal Kraft Community members we have heard your desire to do more fun things in the community and we are happy to announce in January 2010 we will be making some changes so you can connect and share food ideas in more ways than ever!

My mom always used 2 shuck the corn, put it in those half gallon cartons of milk with water IN it then freeze. From what I remember it came out good.

It is bc the cob retains moisture. All veg is at least 80% water. Removing the kernals from the cob before freezing will reduce the moisture content, obviously. There is reallly no great benefit from freezing the whole cob. If there was, ears would be available in your frozen food aisle by now.

Great tips! I have a question, though. The last time I tried to freeze corn on the cob, when I thawed it, it was a little.. mushy.. and when I boiled it, a bunch of the kernels turned a nasty brown.
Did I do something wrong when freezing it, or was it just I had a couple of bad ears?

I've frozen corn straight from the produce stand with no prep. I put two ears, one point end down, the other point end up, in a daily newspaper's plastic bag...perfect fit...and then into the freezer. They stack pretty well and don't take up alot of room.
I also boil corn with the shucks on...they're much easier to de-silk once they're cooked.

I've frozen corn on the cob in the past, but now I usually just do the kernels because of space. You husk, clean and blanch the ears then freeze. I've never tried it, but I probably would defrost the ears, at least a bit, then wrap in foil with seasonings and butter to grill.
I haven't used a vacuum sealer but I portion out my vegetables for freezing in small freezer bags, then put several of these in a second bag. Bags allow you to stack them flat.

I pull the husk off...fill a large pan with water and bring them just to a boil and put my ears in a ziplock freezer bag.

It is far easier, and will take up less room in your freezer if you cut the kernals off the cob and freeze them in ziplock bags.
