That fish does sound good. I'll have to give that a try this weekend, thanks for sharing!

And that foil packet meal looks wonderful!

If you get sick of grilled meals you can opt for breakfast for supper. My husband who had absolutly no cooking skills when I met him has now mastered scrambled eggs and eggs over easy. He can also fry bacon (so now he can make BLT's).

An easy grilled meal that my husband puts together is in a foil packet - spray packet with cooking spray, slice potatoes really thin, chop a small onion, and add white fish filets (halibet, cod, etc). Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt, and lemon pepper seasoning. Cook on the grill for 30 minutes and eat.

My husband could be related to yours.

If there is one for grilling it might actually get used. Picture wise, then he'd guess the rest. Reading ingredients is like stopping to ask directions; not gonna happen.

Now if they made a GPS gadget for cooking....

Hi! ;) We do grill all year, Yeah for California, San Joaquin Valley! The roasted chicken turned in to Chicken Fettucine Prima Vera! How awesome is my husband? He came up with the idea on his own! Thanks to everyone! I truly believe his Inner Chef came out when I told him that I posted our dilemma on Kraft Foods! All the wives out there, I underestimated my husband and with a little challenge he came through! Yeah for Team Werline!!!!

He can grill veggies too. And foil packs with veggies and fish in them. And lots of other things too. If he loves to grill, there are plenty of options. Plus, you don't have to stop grilling when it gets cold - my brother-in-law loves to grill all year-round. See? There's always a way to get the 'menfolk' involved. :-D

Hello Everyone! The weekend came and I went shopping with my cranky husband. He pushed the cart, grabbed the food items, and I rode the ride on cart. He was excited to pick out the cuts of meat that he wanted to cook. He is exceptional on the grill. We decided that he could grill up the protiens over the weekend and we could use them in salads and reheated over pastas. He was excited to see all of the frozen entrees available. We bought a rotisserie chicken and roasted chicken one night became chicken salad the next day. I am sitting at the table and preparing the produce and giving him instructions for the starches.
A Man, A Pan, and A Plan. I need a copy of that just to keep on hand, Maybe my adult daughter could use it for her family. LOL! I am the Homemaker type, she is the fast food type.
Again, Thanks to everyone. Some the ideas were basic but reliable. Maybe the medication has taken some of my reasonable thinking.

"See if you can find a copy of the cookbook "A Man, A Can, A Plan" It's a board book with photos of each ingredient in the recipe. I love it!"

My husband (who has NO cooking skills) has a copy of the grilling version of this book and it is very user friendly!

My advice for the original writer is this: My husband is not a very good cook - he knows how to make ramen noodles and heat up ravioli out of a can... But, if I talk him through it, he can make almost anything. He has almost made a game out of trying to impress me on Sunday nights with some recipe he has found online! :) I suggest that you make your hubby comfortable with the computer. It can be his best friend when trying to find things to eat!

Cranky husband needs to become more intune to taking care of his wife while she is disabled...
This has nothing to do with freezing a bunch of meals for this guy while she recovers...has to do with him taking up to task of caring for her for once while whe needs help....c'mon guy...you do love her, right?

If cranky hubby is willing to set up an assembly line at the table.. here's an easy one.

Easy Chicken Dumplings

1 Rotisserie Chicken
About 3 rolls of pre-made cresent rolls
1 can chicken broth
1 can cream of chicken
Seasonings to taste

Pull chicken and place in cresent roll triangels. Ball up the dough to make 'dumplings.' (Mine usually look like horrible little baseballs. I think "wad it up" is a better term.) Put into a 9 x 13 (or 11 x 14). How full you stuff your dumplings will determine how many you make and how big a pan you need. Dump the chicken broth on top, smear around the cream of chicken, and add any leftover chicken you have to the gooey mix if you'd like. Pop it in the oven at 350 until golden brown and delicious. About 15 - 20 mins. depending on the size pan you use.
Could maybe be fun for kids to help, or easy enough for crabby hubby to help too. : ) This is one I make in my sleep, so I'm sorry for the spotchy times and ingredient amouts. It really is easy, and you really can't mess it up. (Its Jessica Simpsons recipe). ; ) Seriously. It is.

Not to sound like a sales pitch, but this is a Kraft recpie that is super easy, and is an easy emergency dish that doesn't taste like one...

Almond Chicken Dijon
4 boneless chicken breasts
2 T. Miracle Whip
2 T. Dijon mustard
1/4 c. almonds, coarsely chopped (I like a bit more)

Preheat oven to 375. Place chicken in lightly greased 9 x 13. Mix mayo & mustard in small bowl. Spread top of chicken with mayo mixture. Sprinkle with almonds. Bake 20-25 mins.

One more.. this might be one to save for when you're feeling better, but this one is nice because the ingredients are usually all in the house. My mom's recipe..

Cheeseburger Pie
1 lb. ground beef
1/2 c. chopped onion
salt and pepper to taste
1 1/2 c. milk
3/4 c. Jiffy (or whatver, I'm a Jiffy girl) biscuit baking mix
3 eggs (Usually go with 4 or 5, depending on how you like it.)
Ketchup
Favorite cheese for top. (I like Velvetta or shredded sharp cheddar, but whatever is around works.)

Preheat oven to 400. Brown beef and onion; drain. Stir in salt and pepper. Beat milk, Jiffy mix, and eggs until smooth-ish. Pour over burger in oven safe skillet. Bake 25 mins. Top with ketchup (or tomato) Top w/cheese. Bake another 8 - 10 mins or until cheese is golden brown and delicious.

If you can tolerate being by the skillet to watch the meat brown, you've totally got this one from there. Its really yummy.

Hope your surgery goes as smoothly as possible. Best of luck!

Obviously you will need to speak to a registered dietitian first to come up with meal plans - and when you do that, just mention that you cannot get to the kitchen and need things easy for your spouse and/or kids to prepare. They should be able to give you some great ideas.

And try and be creative. Not all food prep HAS to be done in a kitchen. Set up a clean workspace in the room(s) you CAN get to and have the things you need brought to you there. Or better yet, teach your spouse (and/or kids if that applies) some self-sufficiency until you're back on your feet - literally. It will only be a good experience for them to learn how to cook and they may even come to like it.
