I'm in the same place you are except, not only to I have ONE bum leg but both...can't get to the kitchen right all right now so we are living on canned foods and really easy stuff. I was just diagonosed with diabetes last week so don't know what foods to fix and want to have everyone on same menu while still filling them up.
Good luck in your quest...if anyone has any advice for me, HELP!!

Thank you! I am going nuts with him in the kitchen. Your idea to prep food at the table is great! I am excited to try it this weekend. Get some food together for the upcoming week. I will post and let everyone know how it is coming.

I understand ur pain!! for him and u both! When I was working full time, with 3 sons still at home, we were pressed for time often. My husband likes to have home cooked meals, I found myself prepping meals in advance that were freezer friendly. I would just start cooking on the weekends when i had more time. I really liked the meals that make enough for 2 dishes, one to eat that nite and one to save for a later hectic nite. it works out beautifully! He can turn on the oven and pop it in, rip open a bag of salad, grab a nice loaf of crusty bread and dig in! Good luck to u both and a speedy recovery!

Welcome to the community melwer. =)
You have my sympathy pain for both your knee and your frustration.
If you're like me, having him in your kitchen will drive you nuts, too. Maybe for some of the meals you could plop yourself at the kitchen table and let him collect ingredients for you? Then he'd also be learning, shhh, don't tell him that part.
For easy meals, spaghetti can be real simple. Stuffed shells could also be done easily, and in a large quantity to freeze for future meals.
Good luck, and speedy recovery!

Thanks to Everyone! The suggestions are great and I will sit down with him and go through the web site. He's not much of a computer buff but maybe he will become excited by all of the options by the ease of Kraft Foods.
Really, thank you from my heart and keep the suggestions coming.

One nice thing about this site is that many of the recipes have pictures. Maybe sit down with your husband and together go through some options for ease and economy.
If your husband is anything like mine, grocery shopping is far worse than cooking, so you might want to look at the 1 bag 5 dinner section here which comes complete with shopping list: http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/Dinner/1Bag5Dinners/1Bag5DinnersLanding.aspx
You might also check out the recipes in Take 5 area where the entrees require only 5 ingredients.
Good luck and get better soon.

I'm sorry to hear about your knee! my mom had knee surgry when i was in highschool and still living at home so it came to me to cook for her and the rest of our family. I found lots of way to cook quick meals like Spanish Rice. All you have to do is brown a pound of ground hamburger, and then add a can of diced tomatos and two cups of rice with about two can fulls of water. Let it boil, you may have to add water a few times before the rice is cooked, then top with cheese and let it melt! and voila! you have a great meal that takes about oh 20 minutes tops? hope this helps! and good luck!

I'm sure any cranky husband likes steak. Have your husband cut a round steak or any kind of steak into cubes and brown off in a skillet with butter. After it browns, add 2 cups of water and let it come to a boil. Then add 1 (or two )envelope of dry onion soup mix and 2 cups of minute rice. Turn the heat off and let it sit until all the water is absorbed. Fluff with a fork and serve with a bag of salad and maybe some crusty garlic bread. I'll bet it's a hit.

No reason for hubby to be cranky....such is life and can't be helped. Good luck with your surgery!
Good suggestions by the others for crock pot meals(my personal saviour for meals) and freezer meals. My only other suggestion is picking up a rottisere chicken from store deli and have dh either get salads from deli salad bar or pick up a bag of greens for salads to go with chicken and some veggies.
DH could also make grilled sandwiches or quasidellas with leftover chicken, they are done quick, maybe have it with a good can of hot soup. Not the usual dinner fare but will do in a pinch.

My local grocery store offers grocery delivery. That would make your husband alittle happier. Call your local grocery and inquire. Some stores offer to have your groceries ready for pick up at the store - that would save time too. Try items for the crock pot, i.e. pot roast, pork chops or hot dishes. PS - when your order the groceries have them throw in deli items like chicken or other pre-made meals. You may need to call on some other family members or neighbors for a little assistance.
Best wishes and speedy recovery!

As mentioned, freezer meals are great options. Another option is crock pot meals if you don't have a lot of freezer space. It may take some preparation, but that can be done pretty well sitting at a kitchen table and you don't have to be hovering over a stove or oven while it cooks.

good luck with your knee!! i have had knee surgery, and it isnt fun the first few days afterwards. you say that youre laid up now, so im not sure i would be able to help.
my suggestion would be freezer meals. you know, meals that you can make in advance, and freeze. then stick in the oven to reheat and enjoy. baked ziti, casseroles, mini meatloaves, etc. frozen veggies can be thawed, drained and heated up in the microwave or sauteed with some seasonings, and olive oil. a simple salad. fresh bread from the bakery, and youre set.
no offense to the dh. but he is going to have to help out on this one. too bad if he is cranky... everyone needs to eat. especially YOU!
best of luck!!
