I prefer my hubby to stay out of the kitchen. He is a total meat and potato guy and I'm a pasta/fish/salad kind of girl. We will be married for 12 years next month. It has never been an issue with my cooking. He stays out of my kitchen and I will make meals to suit all our tastes. Sometimes he will have to bite the bullet and eat fish but it hasn't killed him yet. When it is "his turn to cook" we go out for a date night. There is nothing wrong with one person doing a certain chore. As long it isn't one person doing ALL the chores .

I think that's true for most anyone - the fastest way to deflate anyone is to focus on the negatives instead of the positives.
But it is great advice and it's also a great way to know if he's just a guy that expects a woman to mother him, or if he's had bad experiences and wants to move past them to be a fun and helpful addition to the kitchen.

I'm a firm believer that we can't actually change the behavior of another, especially if that's all he or she has known. What a person can do is establish an environment where a person gets a lot of positive feedback for changing their own behavior.
I remember watching Leo Buscaglia many years ago and he said one of the biggest obstacles to getting help from a husband is constantly telling him he isn't doing it right. I may grind my teeth when my husband empties the dishwasher and puts things away where I can't find them, but I keep my mouth shut because he IS emptying the dishwasher.
The same goes for cooking and meals. Get him involved in meal planning and preparation. You never know, sometime in his past he may have tried to help in the kitchen and was rebuffed.

Without getting all nasty and political, you might just want to re-think the idea of having someone around that expects you to "fix" his meals... I'm just saying..... In my experience, such a one sided deal eventually does not work out well in the end....

Start out with something fun and easy that tastes good uncooked, like cake batter or cookie dough... then get messy and fun with it. This is a family forum, so I won't go into details on what kind of fun, but I'm sure you have an imagination. He'll LOVE to cook with you after that.

He never said what kind of veggies he like so im ask him later tonight. All he say is him and his family eat is chicken and turkey and no left overs.

Here's an easy recipe that was suggested to me just the other week. We made it last night; it was great. http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/recipes/garlic-lemon-tilapia-90962.aspx
PS - I'd also suggest taking turns cooking - that way you'll get a better idea of his likes and dislikes! Cooking together is fun by the way!

Krystyne---you covered the meat, but what type of veggies and what type of starch (rice, pasta, potatoes, quinoa, etc), if any, does he eat? What type of seasoning does he dislike --- that will open up new spices to try. Should you be into Asian, Hispanic, Mediterranean, Southern American, or Eastern European flavors?

Who needs Joy of Cooking when you can get Kraft Food & Family for free?
They're pretty much the same anyway, right? Except one's free.

There are always pastas, home made pizzas, "breakfast-for-dinner", and soup. Does he like fish?

You can roast a whole chicken on the weekend with olive oil and coarse salt. Then use the leftovers for the next couple of nights in tacos, sandwiches, soup, etc.
