We had white bean turkey chili made with ground turkey burger, navy beans, sauteed celery, onions & garlic, added chicken broth and put in some diced fresh tomatoes, parsley & tarragon at the end - simmered about 6 hrs. in my slow cooker. Made a green salad and used a recipe from Food Network for creamy lime salad dressing. Very different, great flavor, I'll make it again!

Ike's rapid run through the Midwest knocked our power out for a little over 15 hours, but nothing like the situation in Texas. My husband cooked a chicken on the grill and we added a salad and had Chef Bill's New England apple crisp for dessert. Yum!

We did turkey leftovers last night, it tastes just as good the next day (maybe better since I didn't have to put in all the work!)
The head cold I had is making its way through the family, I see more soup making in my future.

Yummmm....a full turkey dinner! How nice to have family near you! Here at the lake, we did a deep fried turkey but not all the trimmings, like for Thanksgiving. It will be nice to be back in my kitchen at home, for that reason.

Made a Spiral Meatloaf with spinach for the first time. We thought it was pretty good...different...a change from the traditional. Smashed potatoes with tomato sauce/pan drippings gravy and kernel corn. Lemon Squares (a new MS recipe), we didn't care for. It made a 8x8 pan, so for the 2 of us, I gave it a try. It's not a keeper. We had some friends of my husband over today to help him build a shed (a shed-raising?). I fixed homemade sloppy joes and creamed chicken for sandwiches, cole slaw, mac-n-cheese, baked beans and sliced watermelon. They scarfed it up!

I did a full turkey dinner and had lots of family over. Who needs to wait until Thanksgiving? Instead of football we all sprawled to watch the news about Ike.
Hope everyone in that area is safe and well!

A family favorite... chicken and rice stew/soup. Chicken stock, cream of chicken, chicken-flavored rice mix, some water to bring it to a thick soup consistency, chunks of cooked chicken breast and raw veggies. Toss it all together and cook on low in a crockpot for about six hours and YUM!

It was a perfect day to put a pot of stew in the oven and let it slowly cook for 5 hours. For a change of pace....put a few dumplings on top. It was raining....a steady, slow rain....that has been welcomed. Our grass has been like straw with no rain for weeks. The aroma of the stew permeating the entire house all day was wonderful.

Cabbage rolls stuffed with ground beef/pork/rice combo & mashed potatoes. The cabbage was fresh at the farm stand, and I had plenty of fresh tomatoes to dice up with onion & seasonings for the sauce. Raspberries and vanilla ice cream for dessert.

We had grilled ground venison with salad and some aromatic rice from South Carolina my sister-in-law had given me to try.
