"Last night, my husband made the best grilled venison backstrap - the tenderloin of venison. He seared it first with pepper and other herbs, then grilled it until medium rare. The searing gave it a blackened pepper coating."
Wow, does that sound good! I grew up in with a father and brother who hunted anything that was in season (I hunted too, but not like they did.) I really miss having game in the freezer, and venison is soooo good! We had a couple of extra kids spend the night, so we had hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, peas and carrots, and I put out a bowl of chili for anyone who wanted it on their hotdogs. It was a hit with them, but I wanted more. Fortunately, we have all these fresh blueberries and melons for snacking on, so they are happy and so am I.

OMG, I need to make friends with some people that hunt. That sounds so so so good.
Last night I had pork chops with olive oil and cracked sea salt and black pepper with a side of green beans seasoned the same way.

Last night, my husband made the best grilled venison backstrap - the tenderloin of venison. He seared it first with pepper and other herbs, then grilled it until medium rare. The searing gave it a blackened pepper coating. We also had okra and tomatoes, brown rice and a veggie salad of cucumbers, squash and tomatoes with a light balsamic dressing. All and all, it was a wonderful meal.
Yesterday I also canned pickle relish and put up green beans in the freezer.

Re: Cincinnati Chili > Sounds like hot dog chili sauce to me.
It's actually called that in some places... but it can be used over pasta too or eaten alone as chili. It's so good!
Last night was... Saturday.. and I was pretending to be a vegetable (quiet house, no work to do, no studying) and I think I might have eaten a sandwich. lol

Last night we had Buffalo wings with the requisit celery, carrot and cucumber sticks and french fries. Condiments included blue cheese dressing, ranch dressing, feta cheese dressing, and ketchup. For tonight I am making meatloaf, au gratin potatoes, and green beans. The meatloaf is cooking now and smells wonderful. I used Vidaleia onions, fresh green bell peppers and tomatoes (from the local farm stand), and fresh basil, parsley and oregano from the front porch garden. It should be great. Oh, and the green beans and potatoes are also from the local farm stand.

My big complaint about a lot of gazpachos are that they blend the veggies down too much for my taste, so bear that in mind. This recipe from the Food Network is closest to what I did: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/gazpacho-recipe/index.html
Ingredients * 2 cucumbers, diced (I seed them and I used more) * 3 large tomatoes, diced * 1 red pepper, chopped * 1 green pepper, chopped * 1 red onion, chopped (I used green onions and added chopped zucchini) * 3 garlic cloves, minced * 1/4 cup red wine vinegar (I used white wine vinegar which is what I had) * 2 1/2 cups tomato juice (I cut homemade salsa with white wine) * Salt * Pepper * 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped * 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped * Juice of 1 lime Directions
In large glass bowl combine vegetables. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Add half the mixture to a food processor and blend until smooth. Combine puree with original mixture. Chill for 4 hours and serve.
EXCEPT I didn't have any tomato juice I used a mild homemade salsa and white wine. I also skipped the basil because the salsa is flavored. I only blended about 1/3 of the veggies because I like a chunkier gazpacho.
It's really pretty simple and it takes advantage of the produce which is readily available right now.

Could you give me your basic recipe for Gazpacho, pretty please? I always enjoy it in restaurants but have never made it myself...

I made gazpacho with what I had on hand: tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, squash, green onions, garlic, parsley and other herbs. I didn't have any tomato juice so I blended some homemade salsa with some white wine. Lots of chopping, but it was good.
Served it with garlic bread. There wasn't enough protein for hubby so he also had a small plate of chicken and rice.

Last night the children requested speghetti and meatballs, so I made that, with a salad and garlic bread. I ate way too much of it, though. Tonight was the 13 year old's turn to make dinner, and apparently he didn't get enough speghetti. He made chili-mac, and it turned out pretty well. By the way, my husband calls this concoction "Johnny Marzetti." I had never heard of that before. Has anyone else called it that?
