Tonight we're having a big pot of chili beans with cheese covered garlic bread! Sauteed some onions & green peppers and added it to the meat for the chili beans! :)

I had a baked potatoe and a chicken breast stuffed with Italian cheese and a basil (from the garden) and grilled. I changed the recipe I found here for chicken rolled with American cheese and then wrapped with bacon.

My family and I just finished eating grilled salmon and grilled veggies leftovers from the 4th of July.

My husband and I is sitting on the back patio watching the boys swim and enjoying the nice cooler weather East Texas has bought for a day or two (lol).

Thank you Deanne! The Gumbo was definitely a little more work to make, but it was all worth the while :). Thanks again for the warm welcome!

Welcome to the community WifeofSoldier. =)

Gumbo always sounded like one of those hard things to make, good to hear it came out so well for you!

We sat down at the river and cooked burgers on the grill, nice lazy evening.

Hi Trixie,

Couldn't help but see that you said you like to put just anything in with your hamburger meat :). If you like spicy or even something with a little tang, try a Chipotle cube, some McCormick's Steak seasoning, a little bit of Tex-Mex chili mix, an egg, some bread crumbs and for a little liquid, some salsa! Mix all together and form into patties! It's the best burger ever! You can always take something out or put something else in. Makes it fun to cook lol.

As for what we ate tonight, I made Gumbo for the first time ever. It turned out better than I thought it would and the family loved it, which is always a plus! Have leftovers that we will be eating for lunch tomorrow. It was Paula Deen's recipe, just in case anyone wanted it :)! Hope y'all have a great week!

Lana

Sounds like hot dog chili sauce to me. :)

It's a thin chili you can serve as a condiment over spaghetti or hot dogs. You can also eat it as regular chili. The recipes for it contain cinnamon and even chocolate, plus, you don't brown the hamburger, but boil it in water. Sounds weird, but tastes GREAT. It was originally a Greek stew that immigrants in Cincinnati modified some for Americans.

It's usually found in Ohio (obviously lol), Indiana and Kentucky, but I've seen it as far afield as Georgia.

I like to get mine either as a coney (chili, shredded cheese and hot dog on a bun) or as a three-way (chili, shredded cheese, and spaghetti).

Some brands are Skyline, Gold Star, and Empress and IF they are to be found in your area, you can find them in the chili aisle.

Hello Everyone!

We did our 4th of July grilling yesterday. We grilled hamburgers and had corn on the cob and baked beans as sides. Sadly the burgers came out really dry --I think I pressed on them a little too heavily; all the juice ran out : (

When I make hamburgers for the grill, I like to mix in a bunch of various seasoning to make them tastier. No set recipe, just whatever is in the fridge. I don't know if it was because they were so dry, but these burgers were flavorless too.

Anyway, I had mixed up an extra couple of pounds of meat so I could freeze some burgers for another day. I didn't end up making the patties, so tonight I think I will try frying up the mixture and turning it into sloppy joes. You can't go wrong with something covered in a tangy-tomatoe-y sauce, can you? :)

Take Care,

Trixie

We had some ground beef left over from the 4th so we had the burgers with some grilled onions plus green beans and new potatoes and a salad of cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini. The veggies, with the exception of the cherry tomatoes (from the farmers market) were all from our garden. I am swimming in cucumbers right now, but we are a couple of weeks away from tomatoes.

Mod. Sky -- You can make Chicken Cordon Blue, it's easy. Pound chicken breasts, top them with a slice of deli ham, a slice of Swiss cheese, a dab of butter and a bit of parsley. Then roll them, secure with toothpicks, and dredge in beaten eggs and bread crumbs. You can fry them, but I bake to save calories. Very yummy!

Freki, that's all I had and I sure didn't make it myself lol

My sister had went out to dinner and ordered it and didn't like it (can you believe it?!) so she brought it to me on her way home. It was so good!

Last night I went to a 4th of July party and they had pork BBQ ribs. Oh man was I in HEAVEN! So good!
