I went to a friend's barbecue. They only recently came to the U.S.; my friend is from Germany and his wife is Hungarian, but for the past five years, she's lived in Germany, too. There was goulash, sauerkraut, paprikahuhn chicken stew, and burgers, too, but they were made differently than ones I've eaten before. Meat-wise, I'm more for fish and chicken, but I tried a little piece of everything. For dessert, I insisted upon bringing a "german chocolate cake" and a black forest one, but they had eierkuchen with apricot jam (reminded me of crepes, which I love to death.) BUT- my absolute favorite part of last night's dinner was hands-down the ice-cream dessert they had, spaghetti eis. I had never heard of it before- it looks like a perfect plate of spaghetti, but it's really vanilla ice cream with strawberry sauce and grated white chocolate. I loved it!!!

I made bar-b-qued chicken on the grill. Served it with baked cabbage casserole and boiled carrots with butter. I was very happy to see the kids eat 2 and 3 helpings of cabbage.

I was at a cookout, so we had in-husk grilled corn on the cob, burgers, chicken and steaks, homemade mac n cheese, and your other usual fare like potato salad, chips, baked beans, etc.
I was happy to have a burger and fill up on corn.

We had fish on the grill that was leftover. We really like the recipe. It is new to our family. I was surprised at what went into the marinade. Hope you like. We ate ours w/ Uncle Ben's Long Grain Wild Rice and steamed broccoli. I would like to do it over a veg pasta. Caroline
Cedar Plank Salmon
Cedar Plank; note: Cedar planks specifically designed for barbecuing can be purchased in the meat department of large grocery stores. Or use an untreated western red cedar plank found in building supply stores. Never use a treated cedar plank. (The premade ones are located in the grill area of our store)
Deep container needed for soaking your board. Add enough water to cover. Place cans to weight the plank down. Let stand 8 hours or overnight.
Marinade 1 cup Canadian Rye Whisky (mom used the single serve bottle, the little small one) 1/2 cup Maple Syrup 1/3 cup soy sauce 1/4 cup olive oil 1/4 cup Parsley flakes 3 Tbsp chili sauce 1 tsp pepper 8, 4oz Salmon fillets
Mix all the Marinade ingredients. Place Salmon into a 9x13 and pour marinade over. Cover and fridge from 45-90 minutes.
Preheat grill on Med/low. Place planks on the rack and place fish on the board. Close lid and cook aprox 15 minutes (Ours took a bit longer) our until fish flakes.

Everyone is cooking dinner, Sky!
We had a cool rainy day so I took advantage and cooked lasagna.
