Mock chicken legs is also called city chicken.

It is cubed veal and pork, skewered and coated in italian bread crumbs.

I'm hoping to go see the movie tomorrow. Maybe they were talking about Mock Turtle soup. Never heard about mock chicken legs, but I read a book once about cooking fads and it's unbelievable what becomes popular in cooking, usually with the introduction of a totally new product or during a period of food or financial scarcity.

We're incredibly lucky to have access to the vast variety of foods in our grocery stores.

Hi corrinne03, do you mean the ones that where made from ground beef, on a stick, shaped like a chicken leg, and rolled in breading or some kind of coating? I remember something like that, but haven't seen them in the stores that I usually shop at. annaskf

Wow, I've never heard of them either. I did a quick internet search, so I got a pretty good idea, and that's interesting.. making chicken-leg-looking items out of other meats.

As far as purchasing them, I have no clue - but I saw a whole bunch of recipes for them in my search.

Saw the movie Julie and Julia yesterday and Julia Child said something about "mock" something in her cookbook - made me think of Mock Chicken Legs that my mom use to make - I asked my 3 girlfriends (we're all in our 50's) if they had ever had them, and none of them knew what I was talking about! I wonder if you can still purchase them? Anyone know? (thought the movie was just ok!!)
