I wish I knew! Ever since I was little there was this guy, and his children and grandchildren still do this... every summer they park one of the huge black BBQ cookers at a local small grocery and sell ribs and chicken with their own dry rub recipe and it's AMAZING. But they won't give out the recipe.

While THAT is my definite favorite, next in line for the crown, for me, is Memphis dry rub, which is the kind I usually get when I go to BBQ restaurants that offer it. I've done my own BBQ a few times (so much time and work involved to really do it right, though) and the recipe I've used is:

* 4 parts paprika
* 3 parts salt
* 2 parts onion powder
* 2 parts fresh ground black pepper
* 1 part cayenne pepper
* 1 part ground mustard

So if you're making just a little for one batch, it might be 4 tsp, 3 tsp, 2 tsp, 2 tsp,1 tsp, 1 tsp. Or if you're making a LOT to save it to use more often, you might use tablespoons, or even cups! You can pack it on thick or rub it on light.. I go for thick because I like lots of flavor.

I really like the taste of this, but it's definitely not the same as the grocery store parking lot guy and I don't have a sensitive enough palate to pick out the flavors and copy cat his by experimenting.

Great tip, Globe07! My brother-in-law does that all the time and as much as I love dry rub for the initial flavor (he makes ribs and chicken a lot), I do sort of love his concoctions -- don't tell him, though. I harass him all of the time about not using dry rub when he BBQs. ;)

Actually Kraft Original BBQ sauce works as a great base to add your own personal touch to. I like to spice my sauce up a bit by adding jalapenos, garlic, and cayenne pepper.

Dennis is that you? The Dennis from the Kraft BBQ sauce team? Welcome back!

When you see comments saying folks love a product that had been previously hated by many others, it really goes to show two things:

1) EVERYTHING is subject to taste. So making sweeping generalizations that something is awful is not accurate, but that it's awful to "you" is.

2) When people share with others about experiences, it tends to be the bad ones that get shared most often. As you see, we've had two "pro" dressing/bbq sauce posts in this thread alone, but across other threads, there's a lot of hate.

That doesn't mean NO ONE like the product(s), it simply means the folks that don't like it are more vocal that the ones that do -- this is a business marketing/customer service FACT: 20% of people who like a product or service will share the experience with others; 80% of people who are dissatisfied with a product or service will share the experience with others.

Just trying to head off any combative posts before they happen.

As for me, I've always loved the Kraft Originial BBQ Sauces, but given a choice, I'm a HUGE dry-rub fan. Mmm.

I love the salad dressing too. I use them for marinades, sauces, dipping, all kinds of things.

The BBQ sauce we only use for dipping toast in. But it's great on meat too.

Kraft BBQ Sauce and their Salad Dressings and their Mayo have all taken a huge turn for the worse in the past year or so.

They switched to only Kraft salad dressing packets at work so now we all have to keep our own other dressings in the little fridge we have.

My husband, who is the grill meister, uses this recipe when he makes a mustardy sauce which he found here: http://www.smoker-cooking.com/mustardbarbequesauce.html

Sweet and Sour Mustard Barbeque Sauce
This tasty sauce recipe is made by combining 1/2 cup of prepared yellow mustard, 1/4 cup of cider vinegar, 3 tablespoons of brown sugar (dark), 1/2 teaspoon of paprika, 1/2 teaspoon of Worstershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon white pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper (powdered), and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.

I recall reading somewhere that the sauces out now are different from the ones formulated a few months ago. It could be that previous complaints were from the older recipe? I don't know, but I bought the BBQ sauce a week ago and thought it was pretty good, I only wish there was a mustard based sauce as well. There are so many ketchup based sauces, but the area where I live is partial to mustard based. I have basted grilling shrimp with the sauce and it was great!

No. It is easy enough to make my own. :-D
Got ketchup and mustard and some vinegar and a boat load of sugar? Add your own spices of choosing and there you have it. Your own personal bbq sauce, and it is from things you already have in your own cupboard.

You can even puree some shrimp into it to make it heart healthy. :-x

I beg to differ.

The new "reformulated" Kraft BBQ sauces are GHASTLY.

In a word: Inedible.

There are hundreds of posts here complaining about them.
