I'm so glad someone caught that pun!

Yes, it bought out all good memories. I really had forgotten about them, I'm adding them back into my Christmas cookie boxes this year.

And punny too. :D Sorry about your dad, but thanks for the recipe. It's easily been 15 years since I've had homemade molasses cookies, and that recipes looks great.

Thank you, that sounds exactly right! I hope it only brought good memories of your father to find the recipe.
Thanks!

Whew, I had to dig for this one. It was my dad's favorite, long ago tucked away since he was the only one that really loved them. (I didn't have the heart to make them after he passed, I'm a sap!)

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses

Sift together and stir in:
2 1/4 cup flour
2 tsp soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cloves
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger

Chill dough. Roll into balls, dip tops into sugar. Cook on greased cookie sheet at 375 for 10-12 minutes (tops will be cracked)

They are very moist and delicious!

Molasses Cookies

Posted: Nov 7, 2009 8:22 PM
When I was growing up (back in the early '70s) we had a neighbor that used to make the most wonderful molasses cookies. I asked her for the recipe once, and she said it was right off the molasses jar. Unfortunately, I don't know what brand of molasses she used. They were soft and chewy and had cracks on top. I believe she rolled them in sugar before baking them. Does anyone have a recipe that makes cookies like this?
