jujube3 --- I read the blog you suggested and I was really taken back by the content. I had no idea such a blog even existed. I have wondered where Jodi was and the other people that helped them out the first 2 years the program was on TV. I was disturbed reading what I did.
I'm glad you gave us the blog to check out. Thanks!

This blog written by Aunt Jodi's sister might answer some questions why so few family members are on the show now.
From what I understand, Kate hasn't had an outside job since the babies were born and Jon no longer does either. They take full advantage of all the freebies that flow their way after having a litter and the show. We'll see more cover stories in the future about the kids.

I'm not sure what Jon does, but he does have a full time job. Kate is a nurse; I saw an episode where she was working part time for a day here and there; on days that Jon could be with the kids. I'm sure she is saving money by staying home with the kids and caring for them than she would be able to make and putting them in daycare. Can you imagine how much it would be to pay for daycare for 6 toddlers and two part time children? I think it's great that she can do it. I know of many mothers that would love to have the opportunity - as well as a few that could never do it. They are making "extra" money by letting us watch them raise their family. That is work as well -- it's not just for fun. They are opening their lives to people that disagree with them and the choices they made and will be making. Not my idea of fun.

I'm sure they do, but I doubt they have a choice in how the show is edited. So we get to watch what the network wants them to talk about.

Don't we live in a great country!!! The freedom to have a choice to watch a program you may find questionable and able to verse an opinion. That's what makes the Kraft community so diverse and interesting.
Actually, John has a well paying job and Kate is a stay at home mom. They made a choice to have another child but it didn't work that way for them.....they got 6. Look at it this way....Kate is not a single parent, making babies and others paying to support them. They are hands on parents and spend more quality time with 8 children then someone who spends none or very little time at all. They are always looking for different activities, projects and fun things to do with all the children.

GENERAL DISCUSSION means just that....general topics. We talk about a lot of things...not just food. This keeps it interesting, I guess you don't agree!

While I know that day care and traditional schooling aren't evil and kids benefit greatly from both experiences, I whole-heartedly believe that being raised at home and schooled at home can offer an education and bond with family that is unsurpassed. I think the Duggers know this too and that's why they raise their children that way.
I think a combination of their strong religious beliefs, the way they are being raised/schooled at home, and their buddy system where a younger child is helped and guided by an older one is what really makes their kids so great.
My husband and his four siblings were all raised at home and homeschooled and they are some of the most mature people I have met for their ages. I know a lot of people worry about socialization in families like that, but between church activities, spending time with friends with children, sports and creative pursuits outside of the home, plenty of socialization can be achieved to make home raised and home schooled kids excellent in creating the skills they need to interact with others.
As for Jon and Kate, I think your comment, "You have to be supportive and encouraging, even when you don't want to be," hits the nail right on the head and is the difference between them and the Duggers.

I've just seen the Dugger's on interviews. I have no idea how those parents got their kids to be more mature at their age than most adults! Kind of scary...
But Kate cracks me up because of how controlling she is, but I really feel like her kids (especially the older twin girls) will seriously resent her someday. You have to be supportive and encouraging, even when you don't want to be.
