Sorry Jen! Sometimes we have a lot of stuff to handle that makes us have bad days and our senses of humor run and hide. I did get it though, but I think on that day, I was more worried someone might take it all seriously and stock up a bar for the housesitter lol
Isn't that true, freki. Although you could do the sink or swim approach: Put a load of fresh ingredients in the kitchen/fridge, leave a bunch of recipes, and say "Have fun learning how to cook!"
You never know, they might actually enjoy it!

College students aren't used to fixing a lot of their own food. Microwave stuff is good. Maybe a big bowl of fresh fruit on the counter. Chips and some dip. Soda too. And if you use coasters, make sure they are prominently displayed.

I agree w/ the no alcohol. It isyour house and you will be responsible for what happens w/ or w/o you there. As far as food goes I would get most of what they recommended. You might even leave stuff for burgers/hotdogs on the grill or something.

To me, giving a college guy a stash of alcohol to dig into while he's babysitting your house isn't exactly the best use of your money.
Also, try asking him what he would like to have. It doesn't help to stock the fridge and it turns out none of it is stuff he likes.

Even though a house sitter is 21, stocking the fridge with booze is probably not a great idea, but also you probably don't want to be too concerned if they help themselves to beer or other alcohol that's already there.
We've had college kids house sit for us with mixed results -- nothing disastrous, but be careful with your computers.
Easy to fix frozen foods, sandwich fixings, snacks, soft drinks and other very easy to prepare foods are all good suggestions. We've also always left cash to allow them to choose other foods as well.

Definitely a lot of frozen stuff. He's 21, so don't know how much of his time will be spent actually in the house, so things quick to heat up for him are perfect.
I actually agree with the $100 suggestion. Not only can he get what he wants into the fridge, but he has eating out options as well and if he's frugal, he's made a little cash!

At 21 years, any convenience food and paper plates. A phone number to the local pizza delivery and a gift certificate to a video rental store. Microwave prep items will leave less mess for the both of you.

Leave a batch of cookies and some soda, I bet they vanish fast.
Frozen pizza usually goes over well, some bags of chips, maybe microwave popcorn. Chances are they aren't going to want to eat overly healthy while there. =)
