The Forman grill is a great idea. Wraps and salads would be quick and healthy. Grilled cheese, omelets and spaghetti come to mind also. She could make a pot of soup and rest while it is simmering, then freeze portions to eat later. Crockpot meals could be an option too then there would be plenty of left overs for later.

Foreman.... I do lots on it. It is quick and easy. One of my favorites if a ham/apple/cheese sandwich. You use your favorite type of bread. I have been using the cinnamon bread. My best friend likes swiss... I like sharp cheddar. The apple is also different as the person. I like the tart apples and my mother likes red. So... put together like you would a grilled cheese. Cook!

Hi everyone,

This thread may be better suited for the General Discussion forums rather than the Kids & Cooking area.

Tatertothotdish, my best to your sibling! My sister's adult child is also undergoing gender reassignment and it's a long process.

A really quick meatloaf idea is to mix these ingredients

2 lb hamburger
1 sleeve crushed soda crackers
1 can vegetable soup
1 egg.
Top with ketchup or BBQ sauce (optional)

Put into muffin tins. Bake at 350 for about 15 minutes
Or put in cake pan and bake for about 1 hour.

Can be made in smaller batches or frozen for easy reheat.
It is also an easy recipe for kids to learn and make.

If your sibling can't stand still for any length of time, there is probably a bigger health issue than what to cook, but any of the suggestions found here would be easy and quick to fix: http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/Dinner/MealsInMinutes/30MinutesDinners.aspx

As with anyone recovering from surgery, it's important to eat a healthy, well balanced diet to help your body recover and to let your doctor know if there are complications or unusual reactions to medications.

That's right. Now that your brother is a woman, she should look for the easiest ways to make meals. May I suggest she get a Slap Chop or similar product? It's so fast and easy. It's made in Germany and you know the Germans make good stuff...or is that the Shamwows?

Well, anyway, if she can't get one, she should buy pre chopped onions, garlic, and other veggies. Fast Franks are great too. Add canned chili on them for some Mexican fun!Canned soups are great for speedy meals and if she adds a grilled cheese sandwich to the meal, she will have a classic that is wonderful and very womanly.;)

She should begin to embrace her newfound womanhood by making easy to prepare meals, then graduate to more sophisticated fare. Sandra Lee has a wonderful 10 minute cooking book that she should love. Welcome to the sisterhood!

Maybe I should get him/her some gift certificates to restaurants or one of those pre paid visa cards so (s)he can order in for a while. Great idea about the aprons.

I went through this same thing 10 years ago.

It really takes a lot out of you.

I ate a lot of chinese takeout and pizza for a good month or two after it was finalized. But I eventually got back in to the swing of things in the kitchen.

Some pretty new aprons or dishtowels might cheer him/her up and motivate him/her to cook more.

Asides from quick-fix sandwiches, I'm not too sure of anything that can be made in less than ten minutes. I would advise that your brother buy some frozen foods that require little preparation and can be heated very quickly? Like the asian noodle packets? Later, (s)he could get chicken or egg salad mixes from a deli and assemble some sandwiches, you know, to ease up a bit.

Surgery ideas?

Posted: Jun 17, 2009 1:59 PM
Hi, my brother has recently had gender reassignment surgery. (s)he's really having trouble getting back into the habit of geetting in the kitchen to cook meals. Does anyone have any ideas on some things (s)he could cook that are quick and easy and don't require a lot of ingredients? They need to be quick because (s)he has trouble standing in one place for more than about 10 minutes. Thanks for anyone who can help.
