I took a computer class in junior high school where we had to code our own programs by hand in Basic. Why did we do this? Not because we wanted to learn how to code, but because we HAD to .. there weren't exactly a plethora of computer programs back then.
In the third grade, I'd get up two hours early every day for school and go in early just to play Oregon Trail. That was the first year our schools got computers. It was awesome! I always made it to Oregon!

I'm glad someone agrees! We played the first 5 or so, bunch of us sitting around the computer to solve the puzzles. I've been tempted to play the newer ones, has anyone tried them?

The first computer class I took in college used punch cards. Those buggers were really hard to type correctly. You submitted your stack of cards four or five inches high and had to come back to the next day to see if you had made any errors, which I always did.
The first really good computer game was Kings Quest. To make up for lack of speed, the puzzles were sometimes really hard and complex, something that's lacking in most of the shoot 'em up type games you see today.

We still have a Commodore 64 in the closet. Watched "War Games" with the kids, and they couldn't believe that we used to dial a telephone number and put the telephone headset on the computer.

With dot matrix printers, had to line the paper up. I remember playing Kings Quest and it took ages to go from one screen to the next.

This will age me for sure, but my first computer had 56K of RAM, which was about one file. You had to keep your programs on tapes and load what ever you wanted to use. My first printer was just a kind of electric typewriter that would connect to the back of the computer and you had to use coding like HTML for things like periods and commas. It was almost faster to type it by hand, but easier to correct.
I used to type Master's thesis on that thing for other students.

lol
My nieces and nephews have yet to accuse me of that, but I do get some strange looks when singing along to an 80's song or talking about video games and such we had when I was their age.

My husband had one of those games and he mention Sears was the only place that you could get them. (funny)

They're still around, sugar daddies! http://www.oldtimecandy.com/sugar-daddy.htm
On a side note, boy did I get some interesting links googling sugar daddies.
I liked the mega pixie sticks better than dip sticks, and I still like swedish fish.

We had a "video game" where you put a vinyl page on your tv screen (it held on by static) and moved a little white square around with a joystick. I don't know who made it. We eventually got a Sears knock-off of Pong, and loved it.
Hey, does anyone remember a Noodle-Roni flavor called Noodles Romanoff? It was my favorite, but they stopped making it years ago.
