Welcome to the community, thebuglady. I like your idea of adding hummus to salad dressings. I usually make black olive with the chickpeas or black bean hummus and that might make a pretty strange looking dressing, but it's a good idea to substitute the plain for mayo in dressings. Maybe I can sneak it in without anyone noticing. :)

Hummus alternative for Mayonaise in salads

Here's another great idea! Try using Hummus in place of mayonaise in home made salad dressings. If you're not used to making your own you can simply add it in to a bottled dressing with a similar result. Ranch or Blue Cheese work well. If making home made, simply add the flavors you're after such as salsa or fresh garlic and herbs, add some lemon juice or try IMO (imitation sour cream made from soy) for an extra creamy dressing. This turns a salad into a protein rich dinner. It is also very filling, full of fiber and low cost. Enjoy!

Hummus is very healthy for you. Hummus is also very easy to make if you own a food processor(small one will do) and then you can experiment even more by adding your favorite ingredients.

Much, much healthier than mayo....

Athenos Hummus Great Alternative for Mayonaise on Sandwiches

Posted: Sep 28, 2009 4:38 PM
Recently I have been experimenting on flavor profiles for sandwiches and wraps to make it healthier. I already have used the Athenos Hummus different flavors for a dip for fresh vegetables and with lowfat cheese and crackers as well for a snack. I was thinking since so good on vegetables then why not try with lean protein and fresh vegetables on whole graain breads, pita bread, or whole wheat tortillas to make a wrap. I did and my taste buds were alive with the subtle flavors and my palate was singing from heavenly rafters. I tried this many flavors of Athenos hummus and all are very good. I used the hummus in place of mayonaise. I even tried a version for a grilled cheese healthified as well. A little oilive oil butter in pan slighted heated and use lowfat harvati and provolone cheese with the hummus in the centyer of the two slices of cheese and the bread covering the cheese. This too was great. My teen son tried the sandwich with hummus and the grilled cheese and very happy with the results as well.

A way to use the product in an unconventional way to make a meal healthier but very flavorful.
