I quit buying all Kraft products after I learned that they were part of the effort to stop the ban of junk food from schools.
They also paid lobbyists to convince our congressmen and senators that it is more profitable to keep unhealthy lunches in our schools.

Look at what they make and ask yourself 'Is this healthy?'. Just because a chip is baked and low in fat doesn't make it healthy. Healthy is nutritious and good for you, and I don't see any of that in Kraft products.

Good answer. Thanks.

Just how can our kid's in public schools get away from way to much sodium, carbohydrates, fats, cholesterol and everything else bad for them. A food industry group is voluntarily halting promotion of its nutrition labeling program after federal regulators said such systems could mislead consumers. Industry leaders launched the Smart Choices program in August to identify foods that meet certain nutritional standards and then highlight them for consumers with a green label on package fronts. But the Food and Drug Administration said that there are so many labeling programs with different criteria that they may mislead consumers about the health benefits of certain foods. The agency told manufacturers it will crack down on inaccurate labeling, although it did not name specific products or give a timeline for enforcement. Food makers, grocers, health organizations and others have created an array of voluntary nutrition labeling programs recently to draw consumers interested in more healthful foods. Smart Choices, which includes nine major companies such as Kellogg Co., Kraft Foods Inc. and General Mills Inc., has been criticized for handing its green seal to processed foods that are high in sugar, such as Froot Loops cereal and Cracker Jack snack food. Kraft said it would not change the labeling on products now on store shelves but did not say how it will proceed. The FDA said it is working to define the criteria manufacturers must meet to make certain nutrition claims on product fronts. The agency plans to work with manufacturers, nutritionists and others to design a standardized system to help consumers select healthy foods.

WE are all accountable for what we put in our mouths. The one thing I wished that manufacturers, including congress & the FDA, would do is to make sure what we choose to buy is labeled correctly in terms of nutritional value. This needs to be done to where the vast majority of the population (hopefully all) would make sense of the labeling. The vast majority do not know what is good/bad for them in terms of ingredients,etc....they figure that could it really be bad for you if the gov't let's/allows them (manufacturers) to manufactuer our foods using ingredients/chemicals we do not even know where they originated from.

And yes, the schools need to revamp the lunch system. This is the main reason why I choose to send my children's lunches with them, but alot do not have that luxury.

My motto:
****If I cannot pronounce any of the ingredients, I don't buy/eat it :)

Breakfast and Lunch program's for kid's in public schools

Can Congress also claim medical or nutrition expertise or status that they may, or may not, possess?. Then why this. Will you please tell me and then all in Congress just how can our kid's in public schools get away from way to much sugars, sodium, carbohydrates, fats, cholesterol and everything else bad for them in the next 10 years, why not start it today?. I am not happy about this new law at all. For the first time in a dozen years, plans are afoot to revamp the school-lunch program. HERE'S WHY. It will GO INTO EFFECT 10 years from today, after Obama signs it into law. By this time, kid's in school right now, will be out of the 12th grade and out of school, and if they keep eating the same old garbage, for the NEXT 10 years in school, they'll be as large as the Goodyear Blimp, with all kinds of Health problem's, if they even live that long. Is this another ploy from Planned Parenthood to abort this generation of kid's while alive, by feeding them everything they should NOT EAT for the next 10 years?.And will will the the PTA step up to the plate here as well?. Because Congress is NOT steping up to the plate here and saying 10 years is to long to wait. It needs to be done right now, WITHOUT raising taxes, and raising up the price on good food for breakfast and lunch. What's wrong with that Congress hmmmmm ?. Everyone should be in a outrage over this to. Are you, over these nutritional breakdowns in the law?.
