I have read about this several times since I posted this and St B is right. Fad diet and doesn't work. BUT it is a really good recipe and I make it occassionally for dinner and the left overs keep really well.

Hi, I didn't know there was a "cabbage soup diet", but have heard of and eaten the cabbage soup. What I done was ate s small boul of it with my lunch and supper, it was filling and helped keep me from eating a lot of other food. I also ate it if I got hungry between meals. I also added, carrots and ground turkey or beef to it to serve to my family. Yes, I lost weight, and yes, I gained it back. I think their right, unless you really diet for a long time, you mostly loose water weight, . but it would help keep you from eating a lot of high calorie food. annaskf

Unfortunately no diet (or even exercise) can "spot trim" or help you loose weight from only one area. You will have to loose weight all over- and then tone your muscles with exercise as you do so to help sculpt your body. It's a cruel joke- but we all know as women, where it comes off of first...

if the soup contains avocados, than it can't be fat-free; 1 cup of avocado has approx. 22g fat. granted, its the healthy kind, but still, its fat.

I have actually tried this diet along with several friends and family members. The soup actually tastes great but after three days most of us had stomach aches from the excessive cabbage. Only one of us actually lost the 10 pounds, which was mostly water weight and was unable to keep the weight off.

I never really used this with a strict diet, I think it would get too sickening... but I have substituted it for one meal a day & lost about 10lbs in one month... I used [2] jars salsa [make sure it is no sugar added] [1] red onion [1] head cabbage [1] tomato a few potatos carrots, celery a couple red peppers, green peppers, avacado, yellow bell peppers I put this in my stockpot & simmered it for about 1 hour - 1 1/2 hours... then I let it cool & let it sit in the refrigerator overnight... it is really tasty once it has absorbed all of the flavors... I LOVE IT!!! and you can always mix it up a bit, with different vegetables... there are so many variations!! I also enjoy it with a cold sandwhich when I am not dieting... it is very flavorful & FAT FREE!!!

I made a batch of that cabbage soup a few years ago and it was fairly tasty---the first 5 times. After that, I could hardly stomach it. I think that's how these soup diets work, you get so sick of eating the same thing you'd rather starve..............

These diets are "fad" diets. They are not based on sound medical advice- but have continued never the less throughout the years. People who follow these diets will initially loose weight- however that weight is primarily water and muscle (not fat). Weight loss is temporary- and will be regained once a normal diet is resume. These diets do NOT supply enough essential nutrients for health and disease prevention. They are deficient in many nutrients such as protein, essential fatty acids, complex carbohydrates, B-vitamins, calcium, and vitamin D. Short term side effects include "urgent" bathroom trips, nausea, dizziness, and shakiness. If these diets are followed for a long period of time- side effects can become serious- heart arrhythmia, bone loss, hair loss/thinning, dry and flaky skin, and weak/brittle nails. As a dietitian and health professional- I do not recommend these diets.

Always wondered about the "Cabbage Soup DIet" or the "Easy Fat Burning Soup DIet". The one I saw was a soup that you could eat as much as you wanted then there were certain foods you eat on certain days. Is there anything to these soup diets? Do they really work?
