Try pretzel thins or baked potato chips instead of regular. If you get a sweet tooth, try graham crackers or fig newtons. I think the most important thing is portion control. Never eat more than a handful of chips, and no more than two cookies at a time.

>is there any good snacks out there I can eat more of besides carrot sticks
Almost anything is fine for a snack as long as the calories stay around 150 cals or less. But to get the most nutrition out of the snack- I recommend yogurt, 1 oz of nuts or seeds, whole wheat pretzels, fruit and 1 oz of cheese or peanut butter, whole wheat crackers and cheese, dried fruit and nuts, low calorie- high fiber/high protein snack bars (I like Luna bars and Fiber One bars), veggie slices and 1 or 2 oz of hummus, low-fat tuna or salmon salad on crackers, etc... In general, I recommend snacks that contain fiber, carbs, protein and a little fat to provide the best "filling" power- to hold off your hunger until the next meal. If I'm not especially hungry and just want to munch, then I choose very low calorie items, like an apple, celery and salsa, low-fat popcorn or yes, carrot sticks. And don't forget sometimes a glass of water with lemon or herbal tea can curb those cravings w/o having to eat.

I've posted this before and I'll post it again. I LOVE the Glycemic Index (www.gidiet.com). NOT a diet but a healthy eating guide. Simple changes in my eating habits helped me lose 30 pounds. The weight has stayed off even though I am not following the eating guide to the letter. Starting on Nov 1st I will be going back to the Stage 1 to get rid of a few more pounds and be back in the habit of eating healthy so I can survive the holiday season.

very good advice !! also stick with more of the veggies over fruit, lower sugar ( GI ) levels if you have a job with a decent lunch time fix a "walkable" lunch, something you could carry and easily eat while you walk. I love to spend my breaks walking, but only have 20 min. for lunch so I carry celery and carrot sticks in a baggie or an apple. Also, try 6 "mini meals" a day if it is doable for you. I've found you don't want to pick up bad things as much that way, I guess because it seems like you're already always snacking, and it's on the good things you've put together ahead of time instead of easy to grab junk from those evil vending machines that are so convenient.

Good luck to you! I know it can be hard to change eating habits & to add excersize to an already busy day!
As most people above have said, add more fruit & vegetables. Watch your portion sizes. For example, never have seconds at dinner. Have only a half a sandwich at lunch, instead of a whole one. Don't add chips or fries! Drink lots of water instead of pop, juice or alcohol.
Let's see, healthy snacks - sunflower seeds raisins/ dried cherries apples/bananas/ any fruit carrots, celery, or cucumber sticks - without dip!

My wife was forced to marry someone considerably older than her due to her weight problem.
She's stopped eating all carbs, which has given her a skin and breath problem and has caused her personal hygiene to suffer greatly. Whatever you decide to do to get your obesity in check, I do not recommend this.

Add more fresh fruits and veggies to your diet. That's a good start. Also, snack on power foods like almonds, red or purple grapes, and blueberries. Use meal bars for meal replacements or snacks. Also, be careful about portions. Eat anything, but do not overeat. I have lost weight and improved my health by following these little tips!

Boneless, skinless chicken breast is very healthy and can be prepared in lots of different ways. Try roasting it with a little rosemary and olive oil and serving a steamed veggie on the side. Another great way to roast it is with some chopped white onion and a crushed clove of garlic and a splash of white wine.
I like to roast a whole chicken at the beginning of the week and then use the leftovers for healthy light dinners and lunches. Try topping a chopped salad with leftover chicken and use a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar for a salad dressing in place of something more calorie filled like Ranch or Thousand Island.
Good Luck with your weight loss program.

This site has some good ideas, but I haven't found a great way to search for them. I prefer Cooking Light- as all of their recipes are geared more for weight loss. Some can be more complex, but not all. Basically, just choose recipes that base their ingredients around fruit, vegetables, whole grains and lean meat/poultry and low-fat milk. Also don't be afraid to modify recipes to use low-fat products or to add more whole grains/vegetables. A lot of recipes at Kraft give substitution advice.

Healthy eating/good snacks

Hello all. I am trying to lose some weight before the first of the year and I am looking for some ideas on quick, easy light meals and snacks. A lot of what I have researched calls for complicated meals and foods I don't often eat or have easy access to. I am looking for simple healthy ideas and ways to cut calories and fat. Thanks.
