My girls love to ride and know how to bundle, but riding in the winter in Minnesota....no way. Glad she decided on Aug.

We did a trial ride for my dd #2 a month after her b'day last fall. It was a great ride and beautiful scenery.

I agree...whatever works for your situation! :-x

It's too hard to plan a party on their actual birthdate. So we try to pick a weekend sometime the same month when all their friends can make it. It gets worse as they get older :)

#1's bd always seems to be on a 4 day weekend for treacher conferences.

#2's bd is mid-summer & has had to celebrate on many a campground. I've learned to call her bff's to check schedules before settling on a party date, as manuy families are on vacation.

#3's bd is usually on spring break & has celebrated in hotels & on the road.

#1's friend ended up having a birthday party on a Thursday morning this summer! Otherwise, it was too hard to try to plan around family vacations, team schedules, and summer lessons.

#1 had a slumber party the weekend after her birthdate. I didn't realize until that night that one of the guest's birthdays was in the morning! I sent DH out for a card that all the girls signed, then we put candles on the pancakes and sang to the OTHER birthday girl - ROFLOL!

#2 has a few friends who have bd's close together. The moms have actually gotten together & hosted joint bd parties.

Another friend decided to go horseback riding for her birthday. NOT practical when your bd is in February & you live in Minnesota! She & her sister (who's bd is in April) held a joint birthday party in August. Each girl got to invite a couple of friends.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that you do whatever works - there really are no rules other than to have a good time!

Both my kids have birthday's right by big holidays and there aren't many kids around. We do a family (we have a lot in the area) party on the actual day and then I let them pick a few friends to take to a movie. (Luckily enough movie makers like to put out new ones around holidays, so it works out for them.) I then sit on the aisle end, to keep them all herded into one row, and give them distance to have fun without a parent.

alissa33,
Have you thought of having her a party when you get back and the kids are in school? My daughters b'day was the first week of Aug (also 1st day of school), but she was so busy, that we have not had her party, yet. We are having it the last weekend of this month (25 days after her b'day). She doesn't mind, as long as she gets her party and her friends. Just a thought!

The problem I am having with my daughters 9th birthday is it falls on Labor Day this year. So we are headed up north to the beach where my parents keep their RV. It is hard having the birthday on a holiday just before school starts, everyone is gone. We will decorate the campsite up for her and make it a special day.:)

My daughter is turning 9 also in September. She isn't that girly either. We are having a red carpet event type of party. I am using the movie night theme from oriental trading to get some ideas. I got a red carpet, balloons, silver plates, cups, etc. gold table clothes, just anything metallic. I am putting her posters (hannah montana, Jonas brothers etc.) on the fence and all over. I got the mardi gras beads and star sun glasses to give them when they walk in on the red carpet. Some of the blow up microphones and instruments. We are serving mini burgers, mini hot dogs, popcorn, nachos, and fruit kabobs. Trying to kind of make it like a movie night.

Does she like a particular sport? Horses? Music?
We did an American Girl Party for daughter's 10th b'day. It was pretty much a makeover/spa party, but you said she was not into girly stuff.
What about a movie party. There are supplies centered around the movies, send out movie ticket invitations, roll out the red carpet, serve hot dogs, or popcorn and movie theater candy. Pick a movie she likes and then you could have a movie trivia game.

Science? Do some simple science experiments, give everyone an apron and goggles (oriental trading)

Tye Dye (ask everyone to bring a t-shirt and tye dye it. ) there are kits at wal mart. Boys and girls like this

Beach or water theme (if it itsn't too cold in Sept)

Olympic theme (could even be wacky or silly olympics) play games, give way medals (wal mart), etc.

Fall Theme (hay ride, etc)

camping theme (send out invitations rolled up like a sleeping bag, roast hot dogs and make s'mores. Play flashlight tag, or tell stories .

And I agree with throwing all the ideas out there, and letting her decide!

We had a spa party for my daughter's 10th birthday. We made our own mini pizza for supper. The girls made bath salts for a craft. They also did each others hair and nails. For their party favor they all got zebra striped bathrobes. I found them for $12.99 at JCPenny.

We had a HS Musical 2 premier party last year and I served hot dogs and chips. Wal Mart made a HSM cake. I purchased some popcorn bags and they had popcorn and little boxes of rasinettes, whoppers, and mike and ike.

If you aren't watching a movie, pizza is a good high school type food, as are chips and dip, but if you want it a little fancier like when they were at the country club, you could do more appetizers (bbq smokies, pigs in blanket, cheese ball, sausage balls, etc)
You could always serve thefood in divided trays like they have in the cafeteria.

Just some ideas

I'd skip the whole theme thing. Just play games!
Musical chairs
Pin the tail on the donkey
Hot potato
duck duck gray duck
If the weather is nice, do a 3 legged race

Instead of a craft, have them decorate their own mini pizza,
Or frost their own cookie or cupcake

You could make them all backstage passes or give them a backstage pass invitation to _______party. Buy a few plastic red table cloths, let them walk the red carpet as they enter the party. Take pictures of them for a party favor. Give them each a microphone (handheld or head piece...can find at $store).

Here is a Hannah Montana Quiz they could take:
http://quiz.myyearbook.com/myspace/PersonalityEmotion/90420/WHICH_HANNAH_MONTANA_CHARACTER_ARE_YOU.html
I would type it out and print it off, not let them get on the computer as a group...takes too long and isn't too safe!

Here is another link to some party ideas:
http://childrens-parties.suite101.com/article.cfm/hannah_montana_birthday_party

Hope it helps:)

Let me start by saying...I LOVE BIRTHDAY PARTIES!!!

She likes Hannah....do you have the 3D concert? Here is a link I found to it:
http://www.amazon.com/Best-Both-Worlds-Concert-DVD/dp/B0013DI488/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1205866810&sr=8-1

Make star invitation (everyone is a pop star) or microphones. "It's no secret _______'s having a rockin' birthday party"
You can purchase the paper supplies (plates, etc) at Wal Mart.
What about karoke or just watch the video and provide popcorn and drinks. I know you said she really isn't girly, would she enjoy doing makeovers with her friends? Or play her CD and let them dance and hang out.

I hope I have helped a little!
