I remember when I was in high school and we could finally go off campus for lunch - I ate a french bread pizza from the local deli every day for about 6 months.

That's the best part of "baking" for kids: getting messy! =)

Hi Laura, My name is Tammera Moore and I want to thank you for sharing your suggestion. I have a 3 and a 4 yr. old and we tried making English Muffin Pizzas for lunch today. My kids had so much fun making them. My 3 yr.old's face was covered with sauce before they had finished. The only thing they liked more than making them, was eating them. Thanks Again.

My boys love it when I pack them cheese and bacon sammies for lunch--whole wheat bread, low-fat American cheese slices, and cooked turkey bacon with a little bit of mayo. Its one of their favorites.
Another favorite of theirs is peanut butter and banana sandwiches. I use the all natural peanut butter which seems a bit dry, so I usually drizzle a little honey on it too.
Today was the first day of school in our town, and I packed pasta with spaghetti sauce in thermoses, plus a nectarine for each of them and one of those new rice puddings from Jell-O. I give them $.50 for milk each day, too.

I would make my sons fried egg, bacon and cheese on a hard roll. It begain so popular that other kids would offer them money to buy it off them. You can guess they said no.

Hi lbloomfi02, we didn't make that for school lunches, but my sons, now 42 & 44, made those for their snack after school. It was so great because they could fix it their selves! . My youngest even liked to use raisin rounds to make the pizza. That sure brought back good memories

> Lunch is new to you?
I know it was pretty new to me when my son started eating solids. I was terrible about skipping lunch. Now I try and set a good example by eating pretty regularly, though the concept of breakfast often escapes me, even if I do manage to get him some fruit or oatmeal or yogurt for breakfast. LOL

My son is in pre-school so this lunch thing is pretty new to me. I've been searching for new and healthy things to pack for him. If anyone has any more ideas I would love to hear them. I'll be trying the muffin pizza Tuesday!

I may have to try these. My son LOVES pizza and this would certainly be any easy way to give him that without ordering out or making a whole pizza.

My son did peanut butter daily for the first few years and I felt the same way; at least he's eating! He had a tougher time adjusting to going to school, wanted to be home.
My girl has had the peanut allergy child in her class every year all the way up through. I think they keep putting her there because I'm a mom that follows the eating rules. (I'm going to have her try making some of these english muffin pizzas on the weekend to see if she wants them for lunch!)
It's a shame kids start thinking they shouldn't eat that young; I'd be the same way. If it's remotely healthy, for one meal a day on school days, be glad they're eating.

It is so true that some kids do want to eat the same thing, every day. My daughter ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with an apple every single day, except when the school lunch was chicken nuggets when she was in 5th grade. I totally agree that with the changes in school and new friends, teachers, etc., that kids do want to have something constant. And something that reminds them of being at home. In 5th grade there were many girls in the class who were not eating to avoid gaining weight. Very sad at such an early age. I didn't have a problem with my kid eating the same lunch - just glad she was eating!
The english muffin pizzas are a great idea! I told my sister the idea and her 3 boys love it! Thanks for idea Laura and for tip on making it a sandwich Rachel.

i have a twist on the muffin pizza for lunch. i turned it into a sandwich by putting sauce on each muffin and adding pepperoni and cheese. i microwave it until the cheese is slightly melted and top with other muffin. this way you don't have to worry about the cheese sticking to the foil.

I think all kids go through a period of wanting to eat the same thing day in and day out, it never lasts overly long. Sometimes, with all the changes in school, it's something as simple as a comfort of something not changing. (I noticed this in younger kids especially.)
Yogurt is another good lunch staple, whether you get the single serving sizes or buy large ones and pack it in plastic containers daily. My daughter will bring grapes to drag through it and then eat the rest for lunch.
