His is at 11:50 - and the soup was boiling hot when I put it in the thermos. I was afraid it would cool off, so I made sure it was really hot when I filled the thermos.

Wow! I can't imagine the soup staying that hot! How long before your son has his lunch? One of my girls doesn't have lunch until 1:30, so after 6 hours in a thermos, I doubt her soup would burn her mouth. On the other hand, if they have an early lunch....

Be careful! I made chicken noodle soup one morning to put in my son's thermos. I heated the thermos with hot water first, then added the soup. He burned his mouth on the soup and had to go to the school nurse and chew on some ice for awhile! Live & learn.

And that's what counts! Well, that and the fact that she's eating leftovers from good, filling homemade meals and not McDonald's.

You can put anything in a soup thermos! My 8th grader will heat up dinner leftovers & put those in a thermos for her lunch. She's taken soups, stir fries, spaghetti, even meatloaf & mashed potatoes! One trick is to warm up the thermos with boiling water for a few minutes. Pour it out before adding your heated lunch

When you get to the message boards, select your topic i.e. general discussions. Pick one of the options under that heading: general discussions, food&family, message board suggestions, or Ask the Moderator. Once you select the sub-topic there will be an option to add "New Topic" or "Subscribe to Topic". Viola. Clear as mud.
