You got it !! that's the way I was raised and now my kids! and you better bet when I fix even liver, those kids still eat. I never gave them the chioce to like or not like - I'm no short order cook, what's for dinner is what's for dinner- otherwise get a job and feed yourself they learn quick it's no fun going to bed hungry!! and it's a long time to breakfast

What about simple chicken nuggets or chicken stars. They dont actaully look like meat more so like a snack.

My kids have never had a problem eating meat. Of course, we didn't give them much of a choice. It was either eat their deer chops or starve.

Just tell the kid that it's something else. I used to do that. Kids are so easy to fool. That trait also makes them fun monopoly partners too. Cover it in ketchup or melted chesse and they will eat it. Anything.

well first off, gald u know you caused this. How unfair for him that u dont feed him supper. I bet u eat supper.
as for being picky, fix one meal and that is what is for dinner. If he chooses not to eat then so be it, but to actually just not feed him supper is just mean.

Choices are good. Make sure he has lots of healthy choices. Fresh fruit. Veggies already cut up and ready to eat. Let him choose what he eats but provide healthy choices.

The lack of eating meat isn't what would be leading to a weight problem. It is the overall amount of calories served and high caloric food choices, coupled with insufficient activity. That is why simply pushing meat isn't the answer. Nor is consistently cutting out snacks or meals. Just focus on making healthy choices and he will be fine. And his cognitive function will be not be compromised either. The boy isn't starving. Ensuring that he eats lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains and low/non fat dairy and/or soy will be sufficient. Food as power struggles can be a tricky thing. Luckily my son had his when he was little and I could out trick him. (He saw the same meal that he refused to eat for dinner, breakfast and then lunch until he finally caved). For him it wasn't about the food, but rather trying to trick mom into getting cereal (which he loves) as often as possible. But for an 11 year old, the whole situation is different. If trying some of the more subtle suggestions (like having him help to meal plan, cook, try 1 or two bites...) doesn't work then definitely meet with a pediatric nutrition specialist.

You really need to do something quick or he'll be a fatty forever.
I know.

I have read that sometimes it is too late to help kid's brain development. But I don't know if 11 years old is too late.
But 11 years of pasta and bread doesn't bode well.
Plus, cutting the poor boy off from dinner (an important family meal) seems cruel and teaches the wrong lesson about eating. Don't skip meals -- eat in moderation.
Disguising foods is also the wrong lesson.
A family trip to the library to check out some books on nutrition and exercise might be a fun way to tackle the problem together.

Now, now, DocChuck, there is no reason to get nasty. It's never too late.
Besides, me thinks the lady may exagerate a bit.
