Two days before your colonoscopy, you may eat light meals that include fat-free clear soups, small portions of skinless chicken or turkey, fish, white bread, eggs, plain noodles, and clear liquids.
After breakfast on the day before your examination, you will be following a clear liquid diet. You can have any of the following:
* Broth or bouillon * Black tea or coffee (you may have sugar) * Apple juice * White grape juice * Ginger ale * Sprite * Water * Plain Jell-O (gelatin)
You may not have any solid food, including butter, cream, fruit, vegetables, seeds, or nuts. Eat or drink nothing that is dark red or purple, such as juices, Jell-O, or popsicles in those colors.
Do not eat any solid foods. You may have clear liquids until two hours before your procedure Bring a friend or family member to drive you home after your colonoscopy. You will be too sleepy to drive the procedure. If you do not have a driver, your procedure will be cancelled. Ask your doctor whether you should take your normal medications before the procedure. If approved, take the medication in the morning, once you have completely cleaned your bowels. Plan to be at the hospital for about three hours.
You will need to clean out your bowels before your colonoscopy. You might be on NuLytely & Flett Phospho-Soda for a while.

When doing a cololscopy you can only have clear liquids about 1 day before.
A lot of things count as clear liquid. Jello, broth, water, 7-up, even colas and coffees. If you hold it to the light and "see thru it" it is considered clear liquids.
Just nothing red. No red jello, soda, or power drinks. They will make it harder for the docs to see if there is bleeding etc.. in your colon.
After they realse you from the hospital take it easy for a day or 2. But each lots of fiber, like otmeal and other whole grains and even good veggies like broccoli.
The "cleansing" soultion is the WORST! I first "shot" I had to take was awful but bearable. The second dose about made me throw up, but if you throw it up you have to re-take it so I did everything I did to keep it down.

Did you mean the test or a colostomy bag? If it is the test, it's a simple procedure that only takes 1/2 day to prepare. Dr. will give you something to drink one day before the test, you go in next day, will be mildly sedated (enough to make to sleep) and when you awaken, it will be over and you can eat whatever you want. Now, if you are having surgery, you cannot eat any nuts, things with skin, i.e, sausages, hotdogs, some vitamins. You need to speak with your Dr.

Hey Pickles, good to see you back posting.
Having had that lovely test a couple of times, preparing for the test is the worst part. Once you start the fast/cleansing preparation, my doctor gave me a list of clear liquids I could drink.
Just reconcile yourself to practically living in your bathroom.

Welcome back, Pickles! It is so good to see you again. No, do not eat veals. The psychological damage would be tremendous. There are several pork chop russipes on this board that look wonderful. They are healthful and nutritious and would do you good.

Hi again, Pickles. I hope I didn't misunderstand and it is just the colonoscopy test you need. (I read it as that because both of my parents have had theirs done in the past month.) I hope you are feeling better soon in any case.

Pickles!!!!!!!!
I am sorry you are not feeling well.
I wondered why you had not been posting.
Are you having a colonoscopy or a colostomy? They are two different things. Your doctor probably gave you some idea of what this procedure involves, right?
Hope you are OK!

Hello Pickles!
If you have any questions about it you should call your doctor and ask them. In general though, you can eat whatever you normally eat until the day before the test. The doctor will give you some (nasty tasting) stuff to drink the day before and that will clean out your colon for the test -- so plan on spending that evening at home.

People seem to like the pork chops made with pie filling. You should try that.
I am so sorry to hear about Veals. Is Veals a close friend of yours?
