i think that your photo will only go into your 'bio' page. the chef's hat will always be the default icon. not a personal photo. you can post a photo, though...

Initially, yes, I uploaded my photo and did not pick an avatar. The chef's hat kept showing up. At first I thought maybe my photo had to be approved, so I didn't say anything, but my pic never showed up and I finally chose an avatar. I haven't noticed anyone else with a personal picture either.

Did you upload it to my photo and try not picking any avatar?
I uploaded one for mine and couldn't get it to click, either.
Incase it's a glitch I'll make sure to add it to my report.
