With our big family dinners I've found that it's about the company; while the adults enough sitting around the table eating and walking down memory lane, the kids all group and want to be active. So I do a big meal (turkey works well) with the "fixings" and some snacks, most of the time the kids skip the bulk of the meal, but can always come back to make cold turkey sandwiches.

I have a few ideas. I am actually making this recipe for Thanksgiving, but it will work for your party as well. You take either 6 or 8 sugar pumpkins or Acorn squash and you make a lasagna inside it. You scrape out all the flesh and bake them in the oven and then you layer the pumpkins or acorn squash w/ cooked lasagna noodles, cheese, half of the pulp that you have blended and some apples. There isn't any sauce to speak of, but i am thinking a bit of butter would be good. I also think that you could improvise, and throw in whatever you wanted. You could serve warm apple, pumpkin or zucchini bread, a salad w/ walnuts and sliced apples or pears w/ a blue cheese or goat cheese etc.... If you prefer and you have a lot of people coming you could do a butternut squash lasagna which is basically a lasagna made the normal way and layered w/ noodles, cooked squash, cheese and an Alfredo sauce(no meat). For dessert you could have individual apple pies or pumpkin pies, apple cake w/ maple frosting, decorated sugar cookies.
For place settings you could have sugar cookies cut out in leaf shapes and decorated w/ peoples names on them and placed on each plate. If you have children you could have them press leaves a few weeks before and then put them between saran wrap and put them on the windows. Leaf confetti on the table looks cute. you could make a fall wreath out of leaves and pinecones that you have hot glued onto a hay wreath shape(craft stores) and accented w/ colorful ribbons. Again if you have kids they could make pine cone turkeys, leaf rubbings etc.. On the table you could have fall plants placed inside pumpkins or place them at the top/bottom of staircases. Hope these ideas help. have a great party!!!!
