Treat tips! I too am very picky, which comes down to texture and there have been so many times I've eaten salsa that's already been pureed down, yet I never put two and two together and did it myself. Well, I will from now on lol

People should get away from comfort food. Sometimes. And try new thing's like this. Believe it or not, you can whip up hearty fall comfort food that tastes like it took all day to cook in practically no time. Indulge in fish with creamy leeks, vegetarian flatbread pizzas, tasty rib-eye steaks, roasted root vegetables, and simple but delicious desserts, including a quick spice cake and baked apples. This menu plan is filled with flavorful, satisfying recipes that will get your family excited about the shifting seasons. Earthy sweet potatoes are the perfect accompaniment for pork tenderloin topped with an intensely garlicky vinaigrette. End the meal on a sweet note with an easy but elegant Banana-Chocolate Strudel.

Banana Chocolate Strudel

4 (17- by 12-inch) phyllo sheets, covered with 2 overlapping pieces plastic wrap and then a damp kitchen towel
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
2 firm-ripe bananas
2 oz fine-quality bittersweet chocolate (not unsweetened), finely chopped
1 large egg, beaten with 1 teaspoon water
Confectioners sugar for dusting

Accompaniment: lightly sweetened whipped cream

Preparation Preheat oven to 425.

Arrange 1 phyllo sheet on a work surface with a short side of phyllo nearest you, keeping remaining sheets covered, and brush with some butter. Top phyllo with 3 more sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter. Arrange bananas one above the other, horizontally, on lower third of phyllo, leaving a 1-inch border on both sides (trim bananas if too long). Sprinkle chocolate over bananas, then fold sides of phyllo toward middle (over ends of bananas). Fold bottom edge of phyllo over bananas and roll up bananas in phyllo. Transfer strudel, seam side down, to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or to a buttered baking sheet, then brush strudel with beaten egg. Cut 4 (1/2-inch-long) steam vents diagonally along top of strudel with a sharp knife. Bake in middle of oven until golden, about 12 to 15 minutes. Cool slightly on a rack, then dust with confectioners sugar.

Pork Tenderloin with Arugula Endive and Walnut Vinaigrette

1 1/4 pound pork tenderloin
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/3 cup red-wine vinegar
About 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 cup walnuts, toasted , divided
2 garlic cloves, coarsely chopped
2 tablespoons water
5 ounces baby arugula
3 medium Belgian endives, sliced crosswise into 1/4-inch pieces

Preparation Preheat oven to 375 with rack in middle.

Pat pork dry and sprinkle with 3/4 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Heat vegetable oil in a 12-inch ovenproof heavy skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers, then brown pork on all sides, about 6 minutes total.

Transfer pork in skillet to oven and roast until an instant-read thermometer inserted into center registers 145 to 150, 20 to 25 minutes. Transfer to a cutting board and let stand 10 minutes.

While pork stands, add vinegar to skillet (be careful; handle will be very hot) and boil, scraping up any brown bits, until slightly reduced, about 30 seconds. Transfer to a heatproof measuring cup and add enough olive oil to bring total to 3/4 cup liquid.

Pulse 3/4 cup walnuts with garlic, water, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper to a coarse paste in a food processor. With motor running, slowly add oil mixture to make vinaigrette.

Toss arugula and endive with just enough vinaigrette to coat, then divide among plates. Top with thin slices of pork and drizzle with remaining vinaigrette. Crumble remaining 1/4 cup walnuts over pork.

Welcome to the community, L1NZZ11. Thanks for pancake topping idea. I good way to incorporate fruit into any diet is with fruit smoothies.

Despite being a "grown up" now, I am still a VERY picky eater!! A lot of the time being picky and not liking a food has more to do with the texture than the actual flavor. For example, I never used to put salsa on my quesadillas or tacos because I didn't like the "chunkies" of the veggies. Then I discovered the blender and pureed my salsa. I even eat taco salads now with the pureed salsa as the dressing!!! Another fab blender idea is to puree fruit to put on pancakes!!!!

Also, save that Ragu jar and sneak the doctored sauce into it after he is in bed. I promise, even my husband is not on to this scheme! Let me know if it works.

If he will eat spaghetti, then you are set. I sautee onions, garlic, tomatoes, zuchinni, bell peppers, celerey - anything you can think of until softened, then add my sauce, and use my immersible hand blender and voila! Innocent-looking marinara sauce without a single chunk. Then, throw in the meat.

I have had many doctors tell me, if you can get enough veggies in them, don't worry about fruit and vice versa. I have found that it is much easier to sneak veggies, although my children love both now.

What I do for a quick weekday breakfast is cook my meat the night before. Bacon in the oven, or sausage or ham. I also bake my bisquits the night before. That way I can make a quickie bacon, egg and cheese bisquit.

Also, growing up in the south, we always had egg circles. Take a piece of bread and use a glass to cut a circle out of the center, throw it into the pan and crack an egg in the center. Runny, or broken. The girls love the little circle toasts.

Another favorite, is bagels and cream cheese. We cannot survive without that in this house! I hope that helps!

Welcome to the community chickidebottom. =)

My mom used to toss hamburge in, too, I'd forgotten that. Thanks for the tips, and the memory!

For kids who like mac and cheese, on the recipes page there's one for confetti mac and cheese, but my mom always used to make the velveeta mac and cheese with hamburger meat when my brother and I were younger, and we loved it. It's a good way to give the kids some protein and it's really yummy. There's another recipe on here too for super cheesy baked mac and cheese, and on there I reviewed it with my own alterations. I used Velveeta mac and cheese instead of the plain kraft mac and cheese and added chicken and extra cheese and baked it. You can also add veggies to this. So tastey!

Another place to check for picky eaters is bettycrocker.com

In response to the woman whose child won't eat anything sweet for breakfast:
My picky eater will eat cheese toast. I just put a slice of cheese on a piece of bread and stick it in the toaster oven. Leftover pizza, and ham sandwiches also go over well. They aren't breakfast food, but since I know he won't eat once his medicine kicks in, anything I can get in his stomach is worthwhile.

My youngest son, who is 9, is a picky eater, too. I cannot fathom where it came from, because I grew up in an "Eat what you're given, and be greatful you have anything" house. Adding to the problem is that he takes medicine for ADD, which kills his appetite for most of the day. If I packed him a lunch with nothing but cookies, he still wouldn't eat it. I have instituted the 3 bite rule. This says, "Everyone must eat 3 bites of each thing offered, because someone (me) went to the trouble of making it for you." After 3 bites, which sometimes consists of 3 peas, you can fill up on the food you like. Of course, this means that I have to try to serve at least one thing he likes at every meal.
I know that my son is very aware of food textures. He will not eat potatoes in any form, not even french fries. Peas, and beans of any kind are out, as well as almost anything from a can. This means lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, usually raw or lightly steamed. I have also decided that fruit and vegetables are basically interchangable. I know that dieticians will probably disagree, but if you think about it, they've both got vitamins and fiber, so it works.
Good luck!

Try Pumpkin Muffins! My son is one of the pickiest eaters and he will eat these. I add fiber powder and protein powder in the mix (NO nuts or raisins!). They smell so good cooking that it made him want to try them!

Good luck!

Responding to Nicnac - whose girls don't like sweet breakfasts... Try making mini-quiches! You can make a bunch and freeze them. I take out 2 for my son and microwave in the mornings. There are endless combinations - but here's my favorite:
6 slices bacon, chopped (or 1/2 cup chopped ham)
1/4 cup onion, chopped
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1 1/2 cups milk
3 eggs
3/4 cup Bisquick baking mix
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Preheat oven to 400. Saute bacon and onions until tender/cooked. Meanwhile, in a bowl, combine milk, eggs, baking mix and pepper. Spray muffin pan with non-stick spray. Put a little cheese in each muffin tin. Top with a spoonful of the bacon/onion mixture. Pour egg/milk mixture into each muffin tin - about 3/4 full. Bake at 400 for about 20 minutes. Enjoy!

On days that my daughter doesn't want cereal she gets a peanut butter and jelly waffle sandwich or a peanut butter and banana waffle sandwich. What ever her taste is that morning. We are out the door in the same amount of time and she can take it with her if she needs too. I use plain waffles not the flavored ones. I am also not huge on it having to be a breakfast food as long as she is eating something so sometimes if she wants just some cheese melting on a tortilla that is ok too. Something fun and easy hope this helps! :)

Could someone Please give me some suggestions on quick weekday breakfasts? I have 2 girls ages 8 and 4 who are otherwise decent eaters until it comes to breakfast. They do not like any "sweet" breakfast foods which pretty much eliminates 90% of quickie morning meals. They both love alll breakfast meats and eggs as long as the yolk is runny. I am running out of combinatons plus it's not the heathiest stuff to eat everyday, it's not too quick either. I would love some ideas...PLEASE!
