Welcome to the community, maymay684!

Great tips! I have a question about the tip for writing your address on paper and tape it on, is that only for deployments to a combat zone?

I was in the Navy and any time I received anything from family, the address was never removed.

But it's still a GREAT tip, even if you're sending to a location where the address isn't removed, because then the paper can be pulled off and the box used again... and again... and again!

i have been on both sides of this. first sending packages to my husband while he was deployed then recieving them when i deployed.

adding a slice of bread in with homebaked cookies really works,

If you are going to send anything home made add a list of ingredients that way there isnt a worry of hidden alergens.

trail mix was a favorite of mine!

depending on the deployed location as the access to a microwave.
but microwave popcorn, easy mac, instant ramen, chef boyardee, bowls/plastic ware to go with. sometimes meals are missed or what was available was not appealing.

just be mindfull that shipping times can vary due to the fact that mail is not a priority. personnel and their gear go first and if there is room left then mail is loaded. and cargo areas are not temp controled so things will melt. however, honestly everything is appreciated!! even a melted candy bar is better than no candy bar!

as a side note try not to write directly on the box. all addresses have to be destroyed. it is easiest if you write on paper and then tape it on.

This got me more than a few penpals, too! I've had family, and many friends, over seas and set care packages, and, like you, I stuffed in extra. It got to the point I'd get a list of names of the no-mail getters in the troop and send a care package for all to different names. They all shared, and it was a nice surprise to hear their name called for mail.

It's amazing how far something so small can go to boosting morale.

I have tried to share other lists w/ you. They are blocking them saying that it is spam. So... I will find you a link.

~ Note: They ask if you send razors to send the ones that cost a little more. The cheap ones dry their faces out.

Here is one that is very similar to the one that I was trying to post for you.

When we mail our military packages we use flat rate boxes. If you are sending to the military address it is typically cheaper. You can pack the box as full as you can get it and it is the same price. When you use a regular box it is much more expensive because they do it by weight. As far as sending fresh baked things. I don't know that they ever make it well. I think that it is the thought that counts. They never complain when they get them.

As for Ideas there are tons of things you can send. Make sure you send things that won't explode. Also anything that might leak put into a ziplock bag. That is another thing they like, packages of ziplock bags. It is better to send things that make them salivate... so sour and sweet. Try not to send salt things that make them hold water. They also love things that are packed in protein. Good luck!

Anything that can melt will! This includes anything with chocolate, carmel, or other gooey ingredients. Unles they are individually wrapped they will arrive as one big glob.
In the desert, hard candy and gum are treats for dry mouths. My husband also enjoyed nuts, any moist wipes, magazines (some restrictions apply to those being sent, espically to Iraq), gum, hard candies, Shower to Shower body powder, single serve drink mix packets (the kind made w/ 8oz bottles of water).
Also please, please, send enough for your loved ones to share! Many soilders and airmen do not have people sending them goodies and they appreciate anything from "home"! I just stuffed the (Flat Rate) boxes until they were to full. I never used any special packing material and all my boxes got to the middle east just fine. If you are worried, vacuum pack them or use Glad Press and Seal and place them in the "disposable" type storage containers by Ziploc.

You can also pack things in newspapers, or magazines for him to read.
Pillowcases from home are appreciated, too...or even a pillow for that matter.
Peanuts in shell are great, too.

We also have sent packages nestled with popped popcorn. It was a tasty treat to add or could also be used to feed the birds or other creatures in the area.
