I put the pork chops in a baking dish and pour apple juice over them, just to cover. Then I put them in a 350 degree oven and bake for 20-30 minutes. I usually buy the center cut chops, mostly because the dog likes the bones. No special thickness, just whatever they have at the grocery store.

Freki, how do you bake your pork chops, and what kind of pork chops do you use? They now come in a lot of thicknesses. Maybe I'll try the saute of onions and apple slices over grilled chops.

I love pork with onions and apples. I saute onion and apple slices in a bit of oil or butter, and serve them over pork chops baked in apple juice. I'm sure you could do the same with a pork roast.

This reminds me. I've cooked pork roasts on a bed of sliced onions (about two) and sliced Granny Smith apples that I've washed and cored, but not peeled. I've also use about 1 cup of apple juice or cider, if I have it or remember to buy it, or white wine. For some reason apples, onions and pork roast just taste wonderful together.

2 quick recipes...
In a crockpot add, pork roast, garlic powder and chili powder to taste and 1 tbsp vinegar. Top with 1 large sweet onion sliced and 1 cup water and 1 cup applesauce. Cook on low 8-10 hours, drain out all but 1/2 cup liquid from crockpot, shred roast into large chunks and add 1 cup of your favorite bbq sauce. Serve on rolls or buns.
In a crockpot add pork roast, 2 tsp chili powder, 1/2 tsp ginger powder, a dash of cayenne pepper (more if you like it hotter), 1 tbsp cider vinegar, and one can diced peaches. Cook on low 7-9 hours. Slice and serve. Note: I've actually added baby carrotts around the roast and they turned out very well.

Mmm! How do you prepare the mustard sauce? I'd like to try it if you wouldn't mind sharing it!

In the deep south, pork roasts aren't just a meal, but a necessity! I brown mine in a skillet after I season with garlic salt and pepper, then put in a crock pot with a few other seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder, onion, a little Accent and about a quarter cup water. I let it cook until fork tender then pour a good mustard based sauce all over it before serving with bread. Yummy!

I always cooked my roasts with the Lipton Onion Soup mix but then I read about adding a can of cream of mushroom soup and it was absolutely to die for!!!! The drippings end up so thick you don't even have to thicken for gravy!
I choose to cook my veggies separate because I find they are too greasy when cooked in with the meat.

I didn't add any veggies to the crockpot with the pork. I'd think the veggies would be good in this so go for it and let us know how it turns out.

1hotbiscuit,
Did you put any veggies in with the roast when you cooked it with the soup mix? I have potatoes & carrots and would like to put those in as well.

JillMD,
Are you talking about a beef roast or a pork roast?

Jill722 you said:
I pour italian dressing all over it.
For pork chops. Peel potatoes and cube them. Add the mini carrots. Place pork chops on top of that and add cream of mushroom soup mixed with 1 can of water and pour on top. Cook on low and when you get home dinner is served. (The soup "gravy" is wonderful)
Do you pour italian dressing on the pork roast and then do everything you listed after that? Or is the itailan dressing for something else entirely? Thanks.

This is the best pot roast I ever had. You take 4-5 pd. roast, 2 good seasons italian seasonings packets, 1 can of beef broth and let it cook for 24 hrs. I then shred it and serve on rolls with provolone or mozarella cheese. It is one of my family's favorites.
